Ornithosis is caused by birds. It is also known under the popular name of a parrot. Most often it is transmitted to a human being by parrots, pigeons and several other species of birds.
What kind of illness is that?
Ornithosis is caused by chlamydia - microorganisms occupying an intermediate place between viruses and bacteria (classified in the order Chlamydiales). The immediate cause of the disease is Chlamydia psittacis s. Ornithosis. Microscopic chlamydia, despite the fact that they contain many metabolic enzymes, are completely dependent on the energy substances (ATP) of the host - parasitizing its energy. Chlamydia infect almost all species of birds and mammals, including about 10-20% of the human population. Many people can be infected for years without visible damage, but chlamydia cause acute infectious diseases such as trachycarposis - and for this reason is the main cause of blindness in the world.
How do chlamydia infect you?
The development cycle of the spore of this germ with the participation of an animal and a human being has not yet been completely elucidated. It is known, however, that people move mainly through faeces and feather dust.
Symptoms and course of disease caused by chlamydia
The first symptoms of the disease in humans appear after two weeks and resemble the symptoms of influenza. The disease lasts 2 - 3 weeks. Sometimes, early complications appear in the form of urogenital infections.
How to recognize ornithosis?
Ornithosis is diagnosed based on the presence of germs in the patient's saliva
Treatment of ornithosis
The disease is treated with antibiotics. Warning! Chlamydia causes other diseases in humans.
Complications of ornithosis - these are the most important of them:
Little children suffer the most from this disease. The patients have conjunctivitis, scarring and destruction of the cornea, and even blindness.
Urogenital infections
Through the movement of the infection, Chlamydia trachomatis may be the cause of inflammation of the cervix, as well as the upper part of the internal genital organs, eg the fallopian tubes and ovaries. Sometimes chlamydial infections are diagnosed when looking for the cause of inability to become pregnant.
Incontinence
The disease causes catarrhal inflammation of the conjunctiva and mucosa of the reproductive organs. Especially often occurs in one-day newborns.
Vessel venereal grain
This disease is most often manifested as a fever, swollen inguinal lymph nodes, inflammation of the joints and meningitis.
