7 ways to support youth with heart disease
As many as 14% of Poles think that a child or young person with heart disease can not even take light physical effort - according to a report prepared as part of the "Hope for hearts" program organized by the Polish pharmaceutical company Adamed and the Marek Kamiński Foundation. Meanwhile, doctors argue that adolescent patients, after childhood surgery of congenital heart disease, should be active. According to them, these people can be active as well as their peers under appropriate control.
Experts of the "Hope for Hearts" program have prepared advice that will help support a young person with heart disease or a congenital heart disease in the process of entering adulthood.
1. Determine the child's activity plan with the doctor
According to 14% of society, a young person with heart disease can under no circumstances undertake even light physical exertion. Meanwhile, doctors argue that a young person with a heart disease should be active and take care of a controlled physical effort. Take care of the child's activity, consult a physician and determine the possibilities of his physical activity.
2. Take care of regular examinations and exercise tests
Remember about regular visits to the doctor and research. Take care of your child's heart exercise. Monitoring the state of health on an ongoing basis is extremely important in the treatment process.
3. Report to the doctor the need for comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation of the child
Take care of comprehensive rehabilitation of the child. Tell the doctor the need for comprehensive teenager cardiac rehabilitation and determine the forms of therapy that he can do.
4. Support the child in discovering his passion
The life of a young person with a heart disease does not necessarily differ from the life of their healthy peers. Encourage your teenager to act and grow. Show him where he can do various interests. Encourage participation in activities organized by cultural houses, non-governmental organizations. Indicate suggestions and options from which the teenager will be able to choose something for themselves.
5. Help in choosing the professional path - diagnose the possibilities together with a psychologist and a vocational counselor
Choosing a profession or a field of education is always difficult for a young person. Gather information, get expert advice. Take a child to a psychological and pedagogical clinic where you can diagnose his options. There are a total of 559 public psychological and pedagogical counseling offices in Poland. Take advantage of parenting classes organized by the clinic, supporting the choice of profession in advising your child. Check with the nearest clinic when professional workshops take place and encourage the teenager to participate in them.
6. Help the child choose the field of study
Establish a list of fields of study of interest to you with your child. Consult the list together with a psychologist, a doctor and a school career counselor. Talk about alternative ways of education for people with heart disease and opportunities to conduct the course of study with a chosen university.
7. Use therapeutic classes based on positive thinking organized by specialists
Strengthening the immune system and the whole body is through faith, positive imaginations, laughter, joy, sense of meaning, purpose in life, fun. Harmony is the key to health. The use of visualization, healthy semantics, evoking positive emotions in order to create health, success and harmony finds its justification also in the assumptions of quantum physics. Positive thinking contributes to well-being and stimulates to action.
