This inflammatory skin disease - seborrheic dermatitis - PsA (Dermatitis sebborhoica) - is also called psoriasis peeling or seborrheic eczema.
Symptoms of łpaternity dermatitis (PsA)
The picture of this disease is numerous lupus erythematosus, covered with abundant yellow greasy scales on the surface. They appear most often on the forehead and head, on the nose and on the cheeks, behind the ears and around the breast and the intercostal area on the back. Although skin lesions do not worsen overall health, the fact that they most often locate in the most visible places - on the head and face - causes severe psychological discomfort in the ill.
Who and how often gets sick with seborrheic dermatitis
Almost a few people have this disease - 1-3% of the population. Both adults and children suffer. Men are more likely to get sick than women - according to some sources are up to 6 times more often than women. This condition usually occurs in young people (up to 5% of the population) - 18-40 years). People with mood disorders or depression are more often ill and subject to long-lasting stress, with reduced immunity, especially HIV carriers, patients with AIDS or malignant tumors and alcohol-abusing, not caring about hygiene, poor nutrition.
There are two main tops:
- the first is for puberty,
- the second occurs in people over 50 years old.
Causes of the disease
Despite the studies and clinical observations carried out around the world, the exact causes of seborrheic dermatitis have still not been established. It is assumed, however, that the cause is morbidly increased secretion of sebum in places where the most sebaceous glands are found, e.g. on the scalp, forehead, nose, nasolabial folds and behind-the-ear folds, near the sternum and between the shoulder blades. They were also found to affect the development of this disease: genetic predisposition, immune disorders, hormonal disorders, especially androgenic, fungal skin infections, including in particular excessive colonization with yeast-like fungi of the genus Malassezia spp. However, sJ may also occur in people with properly functioning glands tallow. Some physicians among the risk factors of the disease also exchange the influence of air pollution, skin irritation by cosmetics and water.
It develops with reduced immunity and under the influence of yeast of the genus Malassezia spp.
They initiate seborrheic dermatitis with immune disorders, which confirms the fact that the disease is more frequent in immunocompromised patients. The inflammatory reaction of the skin may be exacerbated by the production of specific toxins by Malassezia spp. And the aggressiveness of this fat-burning yeast enzyme on abundant tallow-covered skin of the patient.
The course of seborrheic dermatitis
The image of the lesions is mottled redness, and on the surface of the skin - small, gray or yellow scales. The spots join together, expand towards the perimeter, and disappear in the middle, leaving a yellow-brown discoloration. These changes most often locate within the scalp, on the face (forehead, eyebrows, nasolabial folds), behind the ears and on the ear mucins, on the skin of the neckline and between the shoulder blades, also in the genital and anal areas. Although the picture of the changes is somewhat reminiscent of psoriasis - the scales, however, do not fall apart and are moist (greasy). Skin changes may be accompanied by pruritus and burning.
When symptoms recur and are chronic
It was also noticed that the changes are more severe in autumn and winter, and in summer, the skin's appearance improves significantly under the influence of the sun. In the case of frequent relapses and long-term disease process with the involvement of the scalp, excessive hair loss and focal or diffuse baldness may occur, which, however, is reversible.
PsA symptoms may have unusual characteristic forms:
- dandruff-like seborrheic dermatitis,
- disseminated seborrheic dermatitis,
- seborrheic blepharitis,
- seborrhoeic erythroderma (generalized inflammation of the skin with the involvement of over 90% of the skin surface).
Seborrhea often gets sick with seborrheic dermatitis!
In infants, this disease is called cradle cap. It usually results from excessive production of sebum by sebaceous glands and includes hairy scalp. Inflammation may also include the diaper area. The reason for this second location of lesions is mainly incorrect skin care of the child. Sometimes inflammatory changes of the skin also cover other areas of the child's body taking the form of erythematous-exfoliative outbreaks with little exudate. Then they are difficult to distinguish from atopic dermatitis.
