When white dry scales fall from your head you ask yourself - why do I have dandruff?
This seborrhea spoils the appearance of hair and causes dandruff
The cause of dandruff is so-called seborrhea, or overproduction of specific fatty secretion of sebaceous glands of the scalp, which covers the hair and skin with a thick and thick film. When sebaceous glands produce too much sebum, it is impossible to maintain a well-groomed appearance. Hair with a lot of sebaceous secretions is stuck in greasy bands, they lack natural fluffiness and luster. Severe seborrhea is usually accompanied by irritation and inflammation of the skin, which can sometimes take the form of seborrheic dermatitis (PSA) - which afflicts about 1-3% of the population. Then, genetic conditions, immunological disorders, the influence of hormones (especially androgens) and the participation of yeast-like fungi of the genus Malassezia further stimulate the development of an inflammatory reaction on the scalp. Increased seborrhea in combination with inflammation provokes accelerated exfoliation of the scalp, i.e. dandruff.
Why is tallow on the hair too much?
The amount of sebaceous gland secreted by the skin glands depends on age, hormone production and the body's location. Separation of sebum is, for example, high in newborns, and then decreases in the first years of life to increase in puberty (13-18 years). Then it decreases slowly again, which is more pronounced in women than in men. Increased sebum production is characteristic for certain areas of the body that are rich in sebaceous glands - so-called seborrheic regions to which the scalp is the head hair. It may also include parts of the face, breasts and intercostal areas on the back, genital area, etc.
What intensifies seborrhea?
An important role in the production of sebum (sebum) by the skin glands is played by sex hormones. Hence the observed differences in the production of sebum depending on age and gender. The severity of seborrhea during puberty indicates the involvement of androgens and excessive production of progesterone in women. In addition, genital conditions, age (puberty and puberty), diet, current health, stress, as well as climatic factors and abnormal hair care affect the production of sebum. The resultant seborrhoeic factor is the frequent hair splitting of rapidly greasy, dry or normal hair.
What by Is dandruff medicine?
Dandruff is a fine-flaky exfoliation of smooth skin (pityriasis alba) or skin of the scalp - with less severe seborrhea (ordinary dandruff) or more severe seborrhea (greasy dandruff). It is a chronic, changeable and relapsing disease. More often there is so-called dry dandruff (plain).
When white dry scales fall from the head
We then deal with the so-called dry dandruff (ordinary). Contrary to what it seems, it is not a symptom of hair drying, and vice versa - a mild seborrhea. Symptoms of ordinary dandruff usually have no inflammatory symptoms. If the changes are not intensified, they do not cause any major symptoms, although pruritus may occasionally occur. After washing the scalp a short-term improvement occurs, but very quickly the exfoliation returns. The scales are not strongly bound to the ground, they come off under the influence of combing the hair (they are especially visible on dark clothes).
More about the symptoms of dry dandruff
Normal (dry) dandruff usually covers the skin of the scalp. However, exfoliation can also occur between the eyebrows, underarms, on the skin of the beard and on the pubic mound. Normal dandruff does not cause increased hair loss, but they may be more dry and brittle. The disease usually affects people over the age of 20. Later, as seborrhea intensifies, it can turn into greasy dandruff.
When the seborrhea is strong and the scaly scales are yellowish, moist and bigger, we have fat dandruff
Sometimes this type of dandruff precedes seborrheic dermatitis, also known as psoriatic exfoliation or seborrheic eczema. In the course of this disease arise numerous lupus erythematosus, covered with abundant yellow greasy scales on the surface. These patches combine with each other and enlarge on the edges, in the middle disappearing leaving a yellow-brown color. They mainly concern the forehead and the head (seborrheic dandruff) - but also the nasolabial folds, the breast area and the navel, the intercostal area on the back, the genital area and the anus. Symptoms are somewhat reminiscent of psoriasis, but the scales do not run out abundantly and are moist (greasy).
Who dandruff most commonly affects?
Dandruff is a frequent disorder of the skin of the scalp. It usually occurs in Caucasian people, but rarely appears in the representatives of the black race. The highest prevalence of ordinary dandruff in both sexes occurs at the age of 10-20 years, in the period of the hormonal storm of maturation (affects about 50%). Common dandruff is more common in boys and men, with age it can turn into greasy dandruff or persist even throughout life. Hair then becomes greasy, shiny and thinner. This type of dandruff can lead to hair loss, which threatens premature baldness. In infants and children is basically unheard of.
Dandruff (pityriasis) disease caused by fungus Malassezia furfur?
It is now known that the yeast-like fungus is involved in the formation of dandruff - Malassezia furfur (a former and commonly used name is Pityrosporum ovale). This fungus can also cause and exacerbate the symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis, as well as atopic dermatitis.
