When the outbreaks of baldness appear suddenly in the form of characteristic "cakes" we are dealing with baldness, paterata. The disease can appear at any age, although it usually occurs in 30 to 40 years of age. Fiery baldness appears suddenly, usually on the head, and the skin is usually unchanged in these places.
Causes of alopecia areata:
- disorders of the nervous system (neurosis, stress, mental shocks)
- hormonal disorders (in diseases of the thyroid gland, adrenal glands)
- autoimmune diseases (vitiligo, erythematous lupus)
The mechanism of alopecia areata
In the hair matrix there is inhibition of cell division, thinning of hair and over time of hair loss. The symptoms are hair broken over the surface of the skin, in the lower part devoid of dye and thinned. The lesions may also include beard in men, sexual organs, armpits, eyebrows and eyelashes.
When the course of the disease is malignant
In cases of malignancy, hairless hair focuses - with time leading to complete baldness, and even to loss of hair on the entire body (pubic, axillary, eyebrows and eyelashes). In some cases, changes in the nail plates (depressions, thinning and plaque disappearance) are also observed. Sometimes the changes disappear spontaneously, but the disease may come back.
Methods of treatment
Sometimes irritating substances are applied to the hairless skin. Treatment is only carried out by some dermatologists. Another method that is considered effective is phototherapy, or the PUVA method.
The principle is to supplement the hair
In such cases, it is recommended to use conditioners and hair strengthening preparations. Sometimes irritating substances are applied to the hairless skin.
