All the abovementioned elements of their compounds usually occur in an ecologically clean environment, at low or moderate concentrations, which resulted from natural geological processes. This type of presence of metals and their compounds is referred to as concentrationinitial background. At this concentration, even highly toxic metals are usually harmless to health, while metals and their salts necessary for health - turning to food and the body become highly useful. In the case of plants, when presenting a threat to them, it is worth knowing that the absorbency of the root, stems, leaves and fruits - and consequently the accumulation of toxic metal - is often diversified. The endangered metallic toxin for humans on the part of plants and herbivorous animals is decisive for the part of the plant consumed.

Essential for health are bioelements and their salts: calcium, iron and magnesium in significant quantities; and in microducts: zinc, copper, manganese, selenium, cobalt, chromium, etc.. In the body, the content of each ion of these heavy metals should be in a certain weight proportion to the body weight. In addition, all of them should be in proportion to other heavy metals necessary for the system. If this proportion does not deviate significantly from the norm, the body works properly.If the number and internal proportions are disturbed - serious health consequences occur, including metabolic and physiological disorders, poisoning and deficiency diseases. Highly toxic to health are so-called heavy metals: cadmium, mercury, lead, arsenic and others. [1,2,5]   Toxic heavy metals enter the body through the digestive tract, through the lungs or through the skin - the body easily absorbs them into the bloodstream. If at the same time there is a shortage of bioelements such as magnesium or calcium and the given food is contaminated with lead or cadmium, the body substitutes these heavy metals for metabolic processes. It should be emphasized that toxic heavy metals have the ability to displace some of the health-related needs from the body. For example, lead is deposited in bones and displaces calcium from it; it also displaces magnesium. In a situation of magnesium deficiency, the body tries to replace it with cadmium. Particularly toxic are inorganic compounds of these metals, easily soluble in water, therefore penetrating the cell membranes to internal organs. Metabolism involving these heavy metals poisons the body and causes metabolic disorders, damage to cells, tissues and organs of the body and numerous diseases. They cause serious poisoning, vascular disease, kidney damage, bones, reproductive system disorders. Occurring in the environment in higher than acceptable doses, they cause life-threatening cancer. The highest amounts of toxic heavy metals get into the human lungs and into the food from the emission of industrial chimneys and those from the heaps of heat and power plants, coke ovens, smelters, etc. Moreover, they pollute the soil and groundwater, and hence the food: industrial and municipal sewage, landfills waste (automotive, etc.) municipal garbage dumps, etc .. Source of food contamination are some plant and animal protection products (pesticides, animal medicines - antibiotics, etc.); whether fertilizers, e.g. phosphorous, in which cadmium is present. They are also everyday objects - eg paints and enamels for tableware and kitchen ware. This is evidenced by the recent withdrawal by McDonald's network of 12 million glasses advertising the third part of "Shrek", because their paint contained toxic cadmium. etc., Still city planets and arable lands near communication routes are a source of lung contamination and food fumes from unused leaded petrol, or cadmium from grated car parts hardened with this poisonous metal. What is paradoxical - the source of toxic mercury has become fish meat from many marine waters, including the Baltic Sea.   Analysis of the level of poisoning with the heavy metal of the organism   The level of heavy metals in the blood is very variable. The laboratory determination of the elevated metal level on the basis of the blood analysis is applicable on a given day and should not be considered as sufficient evidence of poisoning of the body. Instead, it should be an alarm warning signal and lead to the next examination. By testing a much more reliable and much better indicator of the level of heavy metal poisoning, determining its content in the hair. With long-lasting exposure to metal, it is accumulated in the hair (and in the legs), and in the proportion averaging the variable concentration in the blood. A proper analysis of the strand of hair reveals the average level of several months of poisoning, which is already sufficiently credible evidence of pathology. If the sample does not exceed the acceptable standard of the presence of metal in the system - it does not completely invalidate the alarming result of the blood analysis. It should lead the investigator to consider what source of toxins caused short-term metal poisoning.
