Topical treatment of bacterial skin infections (eg impetigo, folliculitis and furunculosis) caused byStaphylococcus aureus, including by methicillin-resistant strains, and other staphylococci or streptococci.
Composition:
1 g Ointment contains 20 mg of mupirocin. The product contains magrogole.
Action:
Antibiotic for topical use. It works on most bacteria that cause skin infections. Works onStaphylococcus aureus (including methicillin-resistant strains) and other staphylococci or streptococci. Mupirocin also works on Gram-negative bacteria such asEscherichia coli andHaemophilus influenzae. When applied to the skin, mupirocin penetrates very little into the blood. It is rapidly metabolised to an inactive metabolite. Permeation of mupirocin into the deeper layers of the epidermis and skin is increased when the preparation is applied to damaged skin or the use of an occlusive dressing.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients. Extensive burns. Do not use: for eyes, nose, for mucous membranes.
Precautions:
In the case of hypersensitivity reactions or severe local skin irritation, treatment should be discontinued, the product should be washed off the skin surface and a physician should be consulted for appropriate antibacterial treatment. Use of the preparation longer than recommended may result in the formation of mupirocin-resistant strains. Due to the content of macrogols, which can be absorbed from open wounds and damaged skin and then expelled through the kidneys, the preparation should be used with caution in patients with moderate or severe kidney problems.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Due to the lack of tests, the preparation can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding only if necessary.
Side effects:
Common: baking at the place of application. Uncommon: itching, erythema, stinging and dryness at the application site, skin hypersensitivity reactions. Very rare: general hypersensitivity reactions.
Dosage:
Externally, on the skin. Adults and children. The ointment should be applied to the affected areas 2 to 3 times a day for up to 10 days. It is recommended to apply a small amount of ointment to the affected area on the skin with a piece of clean cotton wool or swab. If necessary, the treated skin can be covered with an occlusive dressing. Do not mix with other medicines or apply to the skin together with other medicines, because there is a risk of loss of antibacterial activity (as a result of dilution) and stability of mupirocin.
