Composition:
1 g of gel contains 100 mg Naproxen (as the sodium salt).
Action:
NSAID for topical use. Naproxen has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-pyretic properties by affecting the cyclo-oxygenase enzyme system, inhibiting biosynthesis and prostaglandin transport, inhibiting lysosomal activity and stabilizing lysosomal membranes. It has an inhibitory effect on interleukin-1, normalizes the production of glycosaminoglycan, destroys free radicals. It reduces platelet aggregation. Naproxen applied topically penetrates the skin; absorption is increased thanks to the excipient content - DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide).
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Naproxen, salicylates, other NSAIDs or to any of the excipients. Do not use on damaged skin (cuts, open, oozing wounds, eczema). Third trimester of pregnancy. Children under 3 years old.
Precautions:
Due to the possibility of absorption of naproxen into the blood and the risk of systemic adverse reactions characteristic of NSAIDs, the preparation should not be used for a long time, on a large area of the skin or under occlusive dressings; use with caution in patients with hepatic and / or renal failure, gastric and / or duodenal ulcers, blood coagulation disorders, extreme heart failure and in elderly patients. Protect eyes and mucous membranes against contact with the preparation. During treatment and two weeks after the end of treatment, direct sunlight (including a tanning bed) should be avoided. In the event of an allergic reaction or skin lesions, the drug should be discontinued and appropriate measures instituted. Due to the content of propylene glycol, the preparation may cause skin irritation.
Pregnancy and lactation:
In the I and II trimester of pregnancy, use only if the anticipated benefits to the mother outweigh the potential risk to the fetus. The preparation is contraindicated in the third trimester of pregnancy. Do not use during breast-feeding.
Side effects:
There may be: pruritus, rash, urticaria, burning, redness of the skin, increased skin sensitivity to sunlight. Very rare: severe allergic reactions (difficulty breathing, coughing, swelling of the face, shortness of breath, palpitations). If used for a long time, especially on large areas of the skin, systemic side effects may occur: gastrointestinal disorders (nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, heartburn, abdominal pain), exacerbation of gastric ulcer and / or duodenum, jaundice, impaired renal function, pain and dizziness, decreased concentration, insomnia, tinnitus, blurred vision.
Dosage:
Externally: about 5 cm gel (equivalent to 100 mg naproxen) applied 4-5 times a day on clean, dry skin within a painful area and gently rub until completely absorbed. Do not use more than 500 mg of naproxen per day. Do not use for more than 7 days.
