Prevention of acute and chronic allergic conjunctivitis. Prevention of conjunctivitis in the course of hay fever (the so-called "spring" allergic conjunctivitis).
Composition:
1 ml eye drops contain 20 mg sodium cromoglycate. The preparation contains benzalkonium chloride.
Action:
Antiallergic drug for topical use. Sodium cromoglycate inhibits the degranulation of activated mast cells (mast cells) and the release of inflammatory mediators upon exposure to antigen. It acts antagonistically to calcium: it blocks the Calcium channels associated with the IgE receptor and thus inhibits the inflow of calcium ions into the mast cell via the receptor and consequently degranulation of mast cells. This mechanism of action is common to all mucous membranes (eg bronchi, eye, nose, eyes, intestines).
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to sodium cromoglycate or to any of the excipients.
Precautions:
In case of severe problems, especially if hypersensitivity to the drug is suspected, the patient should discontinue the medicine and contact a physician immediately. In the case of inflammation, also allergic conjunctivitis, the ophthalmologist must assess whether the patient can use contact lenses despite the complaints. Benzalkonium chloride may cause eye irritation. Avoid contact of drops with soft contact lenses. Benzalkonium chloride may change their color. The soft contact lenses should be removed before instillation and wait at least 15 minutes before re-insertion. The safety of the medicine has not been established in children under the age of 4 years.
Pregnancy and lactation:
The preparation can be used during pregnancy only after careful consideration of possible risks and benefits. It has not been proven that mother kromoglikasodu had any adverse effects on a breastfed baby. The product can be used during breastfeeding only if clearly necessary.
Side effects:
Uncommon: burning eyes, swelling of the conjunctiva, feeling of a foreign body in the eye and conjunctival congestion. There have been isolated cases of generalized anaphylactic reactions with bronchospasm. The benzalkonium chloride contained in the preparation may cause side effects such as allergic reactions or taste disturbances.
Dosage:
Adults and children over 4 years of age: 1-2 drops are usually applied to each eye 4 times a day. When the symptoms go away, you can increase the interval between doses. The medicine is only used as a precautionary measure for as long as necessary. Treatment should be continued even after the symptoms have subsided, throughout the patient's exposure to the allergen (pollen, house dust, fungal spores and food allergens).
