Inflammation of the eyeball, the uveitis, conjunctiva and eyelid margins. Inflammation of the outer and middle ear, inflammation of the ear after surgery, conditions after injuries to the external auditory canal.
Composition:
1 ml of suspension contains 2,500 IU. neomycin (in the form of sulphate), 25 IU Gramidine and 1 mg fludrocortisone acetate.
Action:
Preparation for topical use. It has combined antimicrobial activity of neomycin and gramicidin and - thanks to the content of synthetic glucocorticosteroid - anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic and anti-exudative action. Neomycin (aminoglycoside antibiotic) has a bactericidal effect mainly onStaphylococcus spp. (including methicillin-resistant strains), Gram-negative aerobic rods (incl.Enterobacteriaceae, Campylobacter spp.) andMycobacterium tuberculosis, while gramicidin (a polypeptide antibiotic) mainly for Gram-positive bacteria andmycobacterium. Fludro Cortisone, acting anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory, soothes pruritus, burns and reduces swelling. The preparation is ineffective in infections caused bySerratia marcescens andPseudomonas aeruginosa.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation. Hypersensitivity to aminoglycoside antibiotics. Viral, tuberculous or fungal infection of the eye or ear. Corneal diseases connected with epithelial defects. Glaucoma. Perforation of the eardrum of the ear.
Precautions:
Special care should be taken when using patients with suspected perforation of the tympanic membrane due to the possibility of the drug entering the middle ear, which can cause burning pain and damage to the auditory nerve.
Pregnancy and lactation:
The preparation can be used during pregnancy only if the anticipated benefits to the mother outweigh the potential risk to the fetus. Use with caution when breastfeeding.
Side effects:
There may be pruritus or conjunctival burning, rarely nonspecific conjunctivitis or allergic reactions. With prolonged use may be bacterial and fungal superinfections, in predisposed patients may cause increased intraocular pressure and cataracts.
Dosage:
In inflammation of the eye, drops into the conjunctival sac 1-2 drops 2-5 times a day. The patient is placed in the ear with the ear lying down with the ear 2-4 drops 2-4 times a day (after instillation the patient should remain in this position for about 15 minutes). Use up to 2 days after symptoms disappear, but not longer than 7 days.
