Glaucoma with an open angle of perception. Glaucoma with a narrow angle of perception.
Composition:
1 ml of solution contains 20 mg of pilocarpine hydrochloride. The preparation contains benzalkonium chloride.
Action:
The preparation for topical use reduces intraocular pressure. Pilocarpine is an alkaloid with a parasympathomimetic effect. It causes constriction of the pupil and spasm of the ciliary muscle, which reduces the resistance in the outflow of the aqueous humor in the angle of perception and facilitates the outflow of liquid from the anterior chamber. Pupil constriction occurs 15-40 min after administration and lasts for 4-8 h. Maximum effect reducing intraocular pressure occurs 2-4 h after drug administration and persists for 12 hours. Pilocarpine is hydrolyzed by cholinesterase and excreted in urine in combination with other chemical compounds.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients. Conditions in which pupil constriction is undesirable, e.g. acute and chronic iritis and ciliary iritis, keratitis and anterior uveitis, and some forms of secondary glaucoma. Detached retinal detachment or retinal detachment in a history or conditions predisposing to retinal detachment. Breastfeeding period.
Precautions:
Caution should be exercised in patients with severe heart failure, bronchial asthma, peptic ulcer disease, hypertension, urinary retention, Parkinson's disease, corneal injury.
Pregnancy and lactation:
During pregnancy, use only if necessary. The use of pilocarpine in breast-feeding women is contraindicated.
Side effects:
The following may occur: symptoms of corneal irritation (pain, stinging sensation, burning sensation, photophobia), conjunctival congestion, tearing, visual impairment in low light, accommodation disorders (myopia), retinal detachment (especially in patients with myopia), intravitreal haemorrhage, lens opacity (with long-term use), headache (especially in young patients who started treatment), transient headaches, hypotension, bradycardia, salivation, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, bronchospasm, excessive perspiration.
Dosage:
Dospojówkowo. Adults: 1-2 drops every 6-8 h. In emergencies - acute narrow-angle glaucoma attack: 1 drop into the conjunctival sac every 5 min to achieve pupil stenosis. At the same time, administration of the preparation should be done for 1 min. oppress the tear ducts.
