Adjunctive therapy in the defect of the walls of blood vessels, occurring for example in diabetic retinopathy and subconjunctival bleeds.
Composition:
1 ml eye drops contain 50 mg troxerutin.
Action:
Troxerutin is a semi-synthetic derivative of a natural substance - rutoside (rutin, vitamin P). The most important pharmacodynamic effect of Troxerutin is the reduction of capillary fragility and their permeability. Troxerutin prevents exudative processes and the formation of swelling. The protective effect also applies to cell membranes of red blood cells, which reduces the tendency of erythrocytes to aggregate, thereby improving blood flow. Troxerutin administered to the eye works in the anterior segment and diffuses through the cornea. The active substance that reaches the serum will combine approximately 30% with proteins. T0,5 in healthy volunteers is 18 h. Troxerutin does not cross the blood-brain barrier. In animal studies, it was found that only negligible amounts penetrate the placenta. The absorbed active substance is quickly converted to glucuronic acid glycoside. In the gastrointestinal tract, unabated troxerutin is largely broken down by bile and is excreted with faeces.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to troxerutin or auxiliary components of the preparation.
Precautions:
If the patient's condition deteriorates, the treatment should be re-examined.
Pregnancy and lactation:
There are no data on the use during pregnancy and during breastfeeding.
Side effects:
Rarely: burning eyes. Very rare: signs of hypersensitivity consisting of allergic reactions to one of the components of the drug.
Dosage:
Typically, 3 drops per day are injected into each conjunctival sac. The drug is intended for long-term therapy. In the case of concomitant use of other preparations administered to the eye, medicines should be administered at least 15 minutes apart. Ophthalmic Ointment should be given as the last one.
