Treatment of herpetic keratitis -Herpes simplex keratitis.
Composition:
1 g of eye Ointment contains 30 mg of acyclovir.
Action:
An antiviral drug that mainly works on virusesherpes simplex (HSV) type 1 and 2 and virusvaricella zoster(VZV). The toxic effect of the drug on mammalian cells is small. After entering the virus-infected cell, aciclovir is phosphorylated to the active form - aciclovir triphosphate, which is a substrate for the viral DNA polymerase and is incorporated into viral DNA by it, which leads to the completion of viral DNA chain synthesis and inhibits its replication. Acyclovir from eye ointment passes through the corneal epithelium and other superficial structures of the eye and rapidly reaches the therapeutic concentration in the aqueous humor. After topical application ointment is not detected aciclovir in the blood available analytical methods, while therapeutically insignificant concentrations in the urine are detected.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Acyclovir, valaciclovir or any of the excipients.
Precautions:
Avoid using contact lenses when using the product.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Only consider pregnant use if the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. After systemic administration, the drug is excreted in breast milk. However, the dose obtained by the fed infant after the use of the preparation in the nursing mother is probably not significant
Side effects:
Very often: superficial, focal keratopathy (does not have to require premature discontinuation of therapy and heals without visible harmful consequences). Common: transient, slight burning of the eye immediately after administration, conjunctivitis. Rarely: blepharitis. Very rare: hypersensitivity reactions with angioneurotic edema, urticaria.
Dosage:
The conjunctival sac is inserted about 10 mm ointments 5 times a day, at intervals of about 4 hours with a night break. Treatment should be continued for at least 3 days after the healing of the lesions.
