Treatment of acute otitis externa in adults and children over 1 year of age in which the tympanic membrane is intact, caused by microorganisms susceptible to ciprofloxacin. The official information on the correct use of antibacterial drugs should be carefully analyzed.
Composition:
1 ml of solution contains 2 mg of Ciprofloxacin as hydrochloride.
Action:
A chemotherapeutic agent from the quinolone group for topical use. Ciprofloxacin inhibits type II topoisomerase (gyrase DNA) as well as topoisomerase IV, necessary for the replication, transcription, repair and recombination of bacterial DNA. It works on Gram-negative bacteria - includingPseudomonas aeruginosa and Gram-positive bacteria -Staphylococcus aureus. After administration of ciprofloxacin to the ears, it reaches undetectable or very low levels in the blood.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or to any other substance from the group of quinolone antibacterial agents or to any of the excipients.
Precautions:
The safety and efficacy of the medicine have not been established for children under the age of 1. The clinical benefit of the use should be balanced against known and probably unknown risks when prescribing to patients less than 1 year of age. The drug should be used with caution in patients diagnosed or suspected of perforation. or who are at risk of perforation of the eardrum (safety and efficacy of the drug have not been tested in the event of perforation of the eardrum). The drug should be discontinued after the first appearance of a rash on the skin or any other hypersensitivity symptom. As with any antibiotic, the use of the drug may result in excessive growth of non-susceptible organisms, including bacterial strains, yeasts and fungi. If superinfection occurs, appropriate treatment should be started. If, after one week of treatment, some of the symptoms or symptoms continue, an additional test is recommended to reassess the disease and its treatment.
Pregnancy and lactation:
The drug can be used during pregnancy and during breastfeeding.
Side effects:
Uncommon: itchy ear, buzzing in the ears, dizziness, headache, dermatitis, pain at the site of use. Very rare: (general) rash, toxic epidermal necrolysis, exfoliative dermatitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, urticaria.
Dosage:
To ear. Adults and children ≥1. Diffuse the contents of 1 ampoule to the affected ear twice daily for 7 days. If a seton / tampon is used to facilitate administration, the first dose should be doubled (2 ampoules). No dose reduction is required in patients with renal / hepatic impairment.
