Acute bacterial diarrhea without signs of general infection (traveler's diarrhea, food-borne diarrhea, gastroenteritis).
Composition:
One capsule contains 200 mg of nifuroxazide. The product contains sunset yellow (E 110) and quinoline yellow (E 104).
Action:
Anti-diarrheal drug. A enteric antibacterial drug that works in the intestinal lumen. The active substance acts bactericidal and bacteriostatic on most intestinal pathogens that cause acute diarrheal diarrhea (E. coli, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Camphylobacter spp., Yersinia enterocolitica andin vitro onVibrio cholerae and not goddamnVIBRIabout). The preparation does not have an adverse effect on the physiological intestinal bacterial flora and does not cause intestinal dysmia. The drug is almost not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract: 99% of the administered dose remains in the intestine and 20% is excreted in the faeces unchanged.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to derivatives of nitrofuran or any of the excipients. Children under 6 years old. Patients with known G-6-PD deficiency (due to the risk of haemolytic anemia).
Precautions:
The basic rule in the treatment of any diarrhea, regardless of the patient's age, is irrigation. In case of severe, long-term diarrhea, severe vomiting or loss of appetite, intravenous hydration should be considered. In case of infectious diarrhea with symptoms of systemic infection, antibacterial drugs with good systemic distribution should be administered. If the diarrhea persists after 2 or 3 days of treatment, the treatment should be reviewed and consideration should be given to the inclusion of oral or intravenous hydration. If the diarrhea worsens during treatment, the patient should immediately consult a doctor. If hypersensitivity reactions occur (dyspnoea, rash, pruritus), treatment should be discontinued. The preparation contains sunset yellow and quinoline yellow, which may cause allergic reactions.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Nifuroxazide should not be used during pregnancy. Breastfeeding is possible in case of short-term use of the preparation.
Side effects:
The drug is well tolerated. Very rarely allergic reactions such as rash, urticaria, angioneurotic edema or anaphylactic shock may occur. In patients with G-6-PD deficiency, there is a risk of haemolytic anemia.
Dosage:
Orally. Adults: 800 mg daily administered in 4 divided doses. Children over 6 years: 600 mg daily administered in 3 divided doses. Treatment should not last longer than 7 days.
