Symptomatic treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea. In patients with ileum, the product may be used to reduce the number and volume of stools and to increase their consistency.
Composition:
1 tabl contains 2 mg of Loperamide hydrochloride.
Action:
Anti-diarrheal drug. The preparation binds to the opioid receptor of intestinal wall cells, inhibiting propulsive peristalsis and prolonging intestinal transit time. Loperamide increases the resting tension of the anal sphincter, at the same time reducing the immediate need for defecation (stool pressure). The drug is well absorbed from the intestines, where it is almost completely captured and metabolized by the liver, where it is coupled and excreted in the bile. T0,5 in a human being it is 9-14 h (average 10.8 h). Loperamide in unchanged form and its metabolites are mainly excreted in faeces.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to loperamide or other components of the preparation. Children under 6 years old. Do not use in acute bacterial dysentery with blood in the stool and high fever. Do not use in patients with acute ulcerative colitis, bacterial inflammation of the small intestine and colon due to pathogenic bacteria of the genusSalmonella, Shigella and Campylobacter and pseudomembranous colitis, primarily associated with the administration of broad spectrum antibiotics. Intestinal obstruction, giant colon and toxic colon dilatation. Discontinue use immediately if constipation, abdominal distension or bowel obstruction occur.
Precautions:
Use with caution in patients with hepatic insufficiency and in patients with Crohn's disease (including acute haemorrhagic and rectal colitis). In patients with AIDS, the administration should be discontinued at the first signs of abdominal distension (risk of toxic dilation of the colon). Due to the lactose content, the preparation should not be used in patients with rare hereditary galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or malabsorption of glucose-galactose.
Pregnancy and lactation:
The drug can be used during pregnancy only in case of extreme necessity (especially in the first trimester). Use during breastfeeding is not recommended.
