Acute or chronic diarrhea in the course of bacterial infections of the gastrointestinal tract.
Composition:
1 tabl powl. contains 100 mg or 200 mg of nifuroxazide.
Action:
The anti-diarrheal, anti-infective and anti-inflammatory preparation used in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. It has a local antibacterial effect in the intestinal lumen in relation to some Gram-positive bacteria species (staphylococcus, Streptococcus) and certain Gram-negative bacteria from the familyEnterobacteriaceae (Shigella spp., Escherichia spp., Klebsiella spp., Salmonella spp.). It does not work on bacteria of the genusPseudomonas, Proteus, Providentia. Nifuroxazide does not disturb the normal microbiological balance of the gastrointestinal tract. Nifuroxazide is likely to inhibit dehydrogenase activity and protein synthesis in bacterial cells. After oral administration, virtually not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. It is excreted unchanged with faeces.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to nifuroxazide, 5-nitrofuran derivatives or other components of the drug.
Precautions:
If a generalized infection is suspected, an antibiotic absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract or acting in general should be administered. During treatment, it is necessary to hydrate the patient and control and replenish the shortage of electrolytes. If the diarrhea persists after 2 or 3 days of treatment, the treatment should be reviewed and intravenous hydration should be considered. If your diarrhea worsens during treatment, you should contact your doctor immediately. The drug should be used simultaneously with maintaining a strict diet with the exclusion of juices, raw vegetables and fruits, spicy and hard to digest dishes.
Pregnancy and lactation:
It is not recommended for use in pregnant women and during breastfeeding. There are insufficient clinical data to assess the teratogenic or toxic effects of nifuroxazide on the fetus and its excretion into breast milk.
Side effects:
The drug is usually well tolerated. Hypersensitivity reactions (rash, urticaria, angioneurotic edema or anaphylactic shock) may occur.
Dosage:
Orally. Adults: 800 mg daily in 2-4 divided doses. Children over 6 years: 600-800 mg per day in 2-4 divided doses. Use no longer than 7 days.
