Choligrip for the night, GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare
indications:
Symptomatic treatment of colds and flu: headache, throat, runny nose, fever and dry and irritating cough. For use before bedtime to reduce the symptoms occurring at night and making sleep difficult.
Composition:
20 ml of syrup contains: 1000 mg of Paracetamol, 20 mg of promethazine hydrochloride, 15 mg dextromethorphan hydrobromide.
Action:
The preparation combines the action of individual ingredients. Paracetamol has an analgesic and antipyretic effect, mainly by inhibiting the activity of prostaglandin cyclooxygenase at o.u.n. It is metabolized in the liver and excreted by the kidneys. Promethazine hydrochloride is an antihistamine that reduces nasal discharge and makes breathing easier. Dextromethorphan hydrobromide has an inhibitory effect on the cough reflex by a direct effect on the cough center in the medulla. It reduces the intensity of dry, irritating cough. The addition of Glucose syrup has the effect of relieving pain and irritation in inflammation of the throat.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation. Kidney or liver disease. Respiratory failure or circumstances posing a risk of it (chronic obstructive airways disease or pneumonia, asthma attack or exacerbation of asthma). Concomitant intake or up to 2 weeks after stopping treatment with antidepressants (especially MAO inhibitors). Do not use the product during pregnancy and breast-feeding due to the ethanol content.
Precautions:
Caution should be exercised in patients with impaired renal or hepatic function (higher risk of liver damage by paracetamol), with chronic or persistent cough, for example in asthma or emphysema, or when it is a cough with excretion of secretion; in patients with: closed-angle glaucoma, prostatic hyperplasia, urinary retention, epilepsy, cardiovascular disease. The drug should be used with caution in the elderly, because they are more susceptible to the occurrence of anticholinergic side effects, including confusion and paradoxical arousal. Avoid using confused patients in old age. The drug contains 18% by volume of ethanol. The drug is harmful for people with alcoholism. 20 ml of the drug (single dose) contains 37 mg of sodium, this should be taken into account in the case of a controlled sodium diet. The drug contains glucose and should not be used by patients with malabsorption of glucose-galactose.
Pregnancy and lactation:
The drug should not be used during pregnancy. The use of the drug during pregnancy is only allowed if, in the doctor's opinion, the benefit for the mother outweighs the risk to the fetus. Promethazine is excreted in breast milk. Do not use the drug during breast-feeding.
