Action:
It has analgesic and antipyretic effects, antitussive and patency of the nasal passages and the mouths of the paranasal sinuses, reduces the amount of mucous secretion and congestion and swelling of the mucous membrane of the nasal passages. Paracetamol has an analgesic and antipyretic effect, mainly by inhibiting the activity of prostaglandin cyclooxygenase at o.u.n. It is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, the maximum concentration in the blood reaches after 30-60 min, penetrates into body fluids and internal organs, ca. 25% is bound to plasma proteins. T0,5 is 3-4 hours. It is metabolized in the liver, excreted in the urine in the form of glucuronides, sulphates and after conjugation with cysteine. Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride shrinks the blood vessels, reducing congestion of the nasal mucosa. It is excreted in the urine in unchanged form. Dextromethorphan hydrobromide has an inhibitory effect on the cough reflex by directly affecting the cough center in the medulla, thereby reducing the intensity of dry, irritating cough. It is absorbed quickly from the digestive tract. Antitussive effect occurs about 30 minutes after administration and lasts for 5-6 hours. In therapeutic doses, the drug does not inhibit the function of the ciliary bronchial epithelium.
