indications:
Increased body temperature, e.g. in the course of colds and flu. Pains of various origins, eg muscle pain, neuralgia, backache, shoulder pain, migraine, painful menstruation, toothache.
Composition:
1 tabl contains 500 mg of paracetamol.
Action:
A drug with analgesic and antipyretic effect. It inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins, while the antipyretic effect depends on the direct effect of Paracetamol on the hypothalamic center regulating body temperature. This causes the expansion of peripheral blood vessels, resulting in increased blood flow through the skin, sweating and loss of heat. Paracetamol achieves maximum potency in the treatment dose, further dose increase does not increase its effect. It is well and almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. It penetrates into body fluids and internal organs. 90-95% of the administered dose is metabolised in the liver. Excreted in urine in the form of glucuronides and sulphates and after coupling with glycine. T0,5 is about 1-4 hours.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to paracetamol or an excipient. Severe hepatic or renal failure, viral hepatitis. Alcoholic disease.
Precautions:
Caution should be exercised in patients with deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, patients with bronchial asthma and those who are allergic to Acetylsalicylic acid and for long-term use in patients with impaired hepatic or renal function. Use in children under 12 years is not recommended.
Pregnancy and lactation:
The preparation can be used during pregnancy and during breastfeeding, only when clearly needed.
Side effects:
Skin allergic reactions have been observed sporadically. There have been reports of isolated cases of morphological changes in the blood: thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis, methemoglobinemia. In addition, gastrointestinal disorders may occur: epigastric burning, nausea, vomiting, pancreatitis, further liver damage, hepatomegaly, jaundice, hypersensitivity, rarely laryngeal edema, angioneurotic edema, anaphylactoid reactions (bronchospasm, urticaria). Paracetamol used in high doses or long-term may impair liver or kidney function (hepatitis, renal colic, pyuria).
Dosage:
Orally, no more than every 4 hours. Adults and adolescents over 12 years: ad hoc, analgesic and antipyretic 500-1000 mg, usually 500 mg 3-4 times daily; in chronic pain 500-750 mg every 4-6 h. The average daily dose is 2 g; the maximum daily dose during short-term treatment is 4 g, while in the case of long-term treatment 2.6 g. Do not take more than 10 days without analgesia, antipyretic use for no longer than 3 days, and not to use longer than 2 days in sore throat.
