1 g of the nail polish contains 80 mg of ciclopirox.
Action:
Antifungal medicine, a derivative of pyridinone. Works fungicidal onTrichophyton rubrum, T. mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum, Microsporum canis andCandida albicans. Ciclopirox passes through the nail plate; the therapeutic effect occurs after 48 hours after application. The average level of absorption of ciclopirox from lacquer (8% concentration) after application to the nail plate of all 20 fingers and the adjacent skin fragment 5 mm wide once a day for 6 months in patients with onychomycosis is <5% of the applied dose. One month after stopping treatment, the plasma levels of ciclopirox are below the detection level. Ciclopirox passes through the nail plate to a depth of approx. 0.4 mm and its concentration decreases with depth, with proteins binding in about 94-97%. Ciclopirox and its metabolites are rapidly excreted by the kidneys.
