Treatment and alleviation of the symptoms of scalp diseases such as dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis.
Composition:
1 g of medicinal shampoo contains 15 mg of ciclopirox with olamine.
Action:
Cyclopropox with olamine is an antifungal medicine. In vitro works on fungi of the genuspityrosporum (also calledMallassezia spp.), which are the main cause of diseases such as dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. Cyclopropox with olamine also has anti-inflammatory effects. The probability of clinically significant absorption of systemic cyclopirox with olamine after administration of 1.5% shampoo is low. Metabolic pathways after oral and skin use are similar. Glucuronidation of ciclopirox with olamine seems to be the basic form of its metabolization. Cyclopropox with olamine is excreted in the urine, with 80% of the administered oral dose being excreted as a glucuronide.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to ciclopirox with olamine or to any of the excipients. Children and youth under 18 years.
Precautions:
Use the product only on the scalp. Avoid contact with the eyes. The preparation may cause skin irritation - if the irritation persists, the treatment should be discontinued.
Pregnancy and lactation:
No effects on the fetus are anticipated due to low systemic absorption. It has not been established whether ciclopirox and olamine pass into breast milk. The risk for the newborn appears small due to the fact that systemic exposure to the product is low. The patient should be advised that any residual drug must be rinsed thoroughly before breastfeeding.
Side effects:
Common: irritation at the site of use (with symptoms like pruritus, burning, erythema and rash at the site of use). Rare: hypersensitivity at the site of application, flaking of the skin, eczema, alopecia, discoloration of the hair, change of hair structure.
Dosage:
Externally, only on the scalp. Adults. Moisten hair and apply shampoo in the amount necessary to create a rich foam. Massage the skin of the scalp and adjacent skin surface vigorously with the tips of the fingers. Rinse the hair thoroughly and then repeat the above steps. The product should remain in contact with the scalp 3-5 min. The preparation should be used 2 or 3 times a week. The recommended duration of treatment is 4 weeks. In the periods between application, a different, delicate shampoo may be used. No dosage adjustment is necessary in elderly patients or in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
