Composition:
5 ml of syrup contains 5 mg of promethazine hydrochloride; the syrup contains sucrose and sodium metabisulfite.
Action:
Antihistamine. Prometazine acts antiallergic, calming and antiemetic. It blocks histamine H-receptors1. It is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to the active substance, other phenothiazine derivatives or to any of the excipients. Inhibition of o.u.n. Coma. Treatment with MAO inhibitors and a period of 14 days after the end of their application. Prometasine should not be used in children under 2 years of age.
Precautions:
Caution should be exercised when using promethazine in patients with glaucoma; with epilepsy (lowers seizure threshold); with a stenosis of the urethral meatus; with hypertrophy of the prostate gland; with liver failure; with duodenal pyloric ileus; with peptic ulcer disease; with bronchial asthma; with bronchitis; with bronchiectasis; with severe coronary disease; with kidney failure. The product contains sucrose - should not be used in patients with hereditary fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or in the case of sucrase-isomaltase deficiency. The product contains sodium metabisulfite and can rarely cause severe hypersensitivity reactions and bronchospasm.
Pregnancy and lactation:
The preparation can be used during pregnancy only if clearly necessary. The drug is excreted in human milk and can cause drowsiness of the newborn baby - use during breastfeeding is only allowed after consultation with a doctor.
Side effects:
Rare: Xerostomia, drying of the airways, arrhythmias, elevation of blood pressure, changes in the kidneys, dysuria, changes in the liver.
