1 g of cream contains 200 mg of azelaic acid. The preparation contains propylene glycol, cetostearyl alcohol and benzoic acid.
Action:
Azelaic acid has an antibacterial effect, especially on bacteriaPropionibacterium acnesthat affect the development of acne. In addition, it reduces the number of micro-blackheads, as a result of the normalization of the keratin production process and the inhibition of excessive keratinization of the epidermis. The product also has a bleaching effect. Azelaic acid inhibits the activity of tyrosinase and mitochondrial enzymes, thus inhibiting the growth and hyperactivity of melanocytes. After applying the preparation on the skin, it reaches all its layers. researchin vitro showed that the content of azelaic acid after application of a single dose is: in the stratum corneum 3-5%, in the epidermis and dermoid skin up to 10%, in the blood plasma on average 4%. Azelaic acid is 43% bound to plasma proteins. It has a slight β-oxidation. It is mainly excreted in urine in unchanged form. T0,5 after application to the skin is 12 hours.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to azelaic acid and other components of the preparation.
Precautions:
Before starting treatment, the type of discoloration should be determined - Wood's lamp is recommended (the skin form of discoloration is resistant to treatment with the preparation, while the epidermal type and the epidermal-cutaneous skin type are easily treatable). During acne treatment in patients with dark complexion, the skin should be carefully observed due to the whitening action of the preparation. The product contains propylene glycol, which can cause skin irritation, cetostearyl alcohol, which can cause a local skin reaction (eg contact dermatitis) and benzoic acid, which may cause minor irritation of the skin, eyes and mucous membranes. There are insufficient data on the safety and efficacy of treatment with the preparation in children under 12 years of age.
Pregnancy and lactation:
The preparation can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding only if the anticipated benefits to the mother outweigh the potential risk to the fetus and the fed baby.
Side effects:
Common: signs of local skin irritation such as burning, pruritus, redness, dryness and peeling of the skin (usually occurring at the beginning of treatment, if persist, should be used once a day). In most cases, the symptoms of irritation are mild and usually do not require discontinuation of the preparation.
