Acne vulgaris - mild to moderate in intensity: acne, acne, maculopapular pustular acne.
Composition:
1 g of cream or 1 g of gel contains 1 mg of adapalene. The cream contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate and propyl parahydroxybenzoate. The gel contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate and propylene glycol.
Action:
Anti-acne treatment for topical use. Adapalen is a derivative of naphthalenecarboxylic acid, it does not react with oxygen and does not decompose as a result of light. It works similar to retinoids. After penetrating into the cell, it connects to retinoic acid nuclear (RAR) receptors, causing a change in gene expression and synthesis of new mRNA. In contrast to retinoids, it does not bind to their cytoplasmic receptors. Topical adapalen affects the normalization of keratinization and differentiation of the epidermis. It probably normalizes the differentiation of the epithelium of the hair follicles, as a result of which reduces the formation of blackheads. Adapalen is more anti-inflammatory than retinoids. It inhibits the chemotactic and chemokinescent reaction of polymorphonuclear leukocytes and peroxidation of arachidonic acid, impairing the formation of appropriate inflammatory cell mediators. As a result, it prevents the formation of comedones (open and closed) and reduces inflammatory changes (papules and pustules). After topical application, the adapalene is not absorbed through the skin in significant amounts. Even when the product was used for several weeks on large body surfaces, no drug was found in the patients' blood serum.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to adapalene or any of the excipients. Severe acne or acne covering a large area of the skin. Do not use on damaged skin, tanned or with eczema other than acne. Pregnancy.
Precautions:
Protect lips, eyes and mucous membranes from contact with the preparation. Redness, irritation and dryness of the face may appear shortly after starting treatment. In such cases, treatment should be discontinued for several days until the symptoms disappear. When applying the preparation, due to thinning of the stratum corneum, the skin becomes sensitive to ultraviolet radiation and topical medicines or cosmetics. Due to this, during treatment with adapalene, excessive exposure to UV radiation and sun (using eg headgear and protective filters) should be avoided and cosmetics recommended for acne or astringent skin should not be used. The methyl parahydroxybenzoate (gel and cream) and propyl parahydroxybenzoate (cream) contained in the preparation may cause allergic reactions (possible late-type reactions). Due to the propylene glycol content, the gel may cause skin irritation. The safety of use and the effectiveness of adapalene have not been studied in children under 12 years of age.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Due to limited data and the possibility of very limited penetration of adapalene into the body, the preparation should not be used during pregnancy. If a woman becomes pregnant during treatment, it should be interrupted. The preparation can be used in breast-feeding women. Do not use the product on the chest in breast-feeding women.
Treatment starts with applying small amounts of the preparation to the affected skin, except around the eyes and lips, and nasolabial folds, 10-15 minutes after washing and drying the skin with a towel. The product should be used once a day, preferably in the evening. After applying the cream, wash your hands thoroughly. If after 3 months there is no cure, the physician should decide on the further use of the preparation.
