Helpful in inflammation of the mouth and throat in the course of upper airway catarrh, strep throat, viral infections and fungal infections.
Composition:
100 g powder contains: 34.8 g of borax, 34.8 g of sodium bicarbonate, bicarbonate, 14.9 g of sodium chloride, 14.9 g of sodium benzoate, 0.5 g of menthol.
Action:
Preparation with disinfecting, astringent, anti-inflammatory, topical analgesic. It has a very good bacteriostatic activity in relation toStaphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and strong fungostatic activity forCandida albicans andAspergillus niger. The preparation inhibits the development of viral infections, because its application topically raises pH, rinsing and mechanically removes infected epithelial cells and destroys free virions. It also works antifungal due to the combined action of alkaline pH and antifungal activity of its ingredients, especially sodium benzoate. Borax is absorbed to a very small extent through intact skin, but it is well absorbed when applied to the mucous membrane or damaged skin. After oral administration, it is absorbed almost completely. Sodium benzoate is quickly absorbed from the surface of the skin. Menthol, after absorption, most accumulates in adipose tissue. Borax is widely distributed in the body the highest concentration it achieves in bone tissue. Borates are not metabolised in the body, but only (before absorption) go into an undissociated form - boric acid, which is excreted mainly through the kidneys, but also with faeces and milk. Sodium benzoate undergoes rapid metabolism and does not accumulate in the body. Menthol is metabolised in the liver to a number of metabolites, some of which are conjugated to glucuronic acid. Sodium benzoate is mainly excreted in the urine and to a lesser extent in faeces. Menthol conjugated with glucuronic acid is excreted in urine and faeces. Inorganic salts (NaCl and NaHCO3) are practically not subject to changes in the body (except for the bicarbonate anion from which carbon dioxide is formed), and their fate in the body are subject to physiological mechanisms.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients. Damaged surface of mucous membranes.
Precautions:
During the gargle, care should be taken not to swallow the preparation. When applying the mucous membrane to the damaged surface, it is possible to accumulate boron compounds in the body. Long-term use of the preparation, especially in young children, may increase the risk of accumulation of boron compounds in the tissues and organs of the body, mainly in the brain, liver, spleen and kidneys and in adipose tissue.
Pregnancy and lactation:
There are no adequate data on the use in pregnant women.
Side effects:
With short-term use, the preparation is well tolerated. The following may occur: lack of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, muco-vomiting, anuria, skin rash, baldness, anemia, fever.
Dosage:
Externally for gargling: 1/2 - teaspoon for half a glass of warm water, rinse 3 times a day.
