indications:
Short-term symptomatic treatment of nasal congestion occurring in the course of rhinitis and paranasal sinusitis.
Composition:
1 ml of nasal spray contains 0.5 mg or 1 mg of Xylometazoline hydrochloride.
Action:
A preparation with sympathomimetic effect. When administered on the nasal mucosa, it causes a fast-acting and long-lasting contraction of the blood vessels, resulting in a reduction in nasal congestion. The effect of the drug probably depends on the direct stimulation of postsynaptic α receptors. There was no effect on β-adrenergic receptors. In conditionsin vitro xylometazoline has been shown to inhibit cilia, but this effect is not persistent. In the treatment of allergic rhinitis, xylometazoline administered as a nasal spray is only suitable for short-term use or to facilitate the administration of other topical medications to the nasal mucosa. Xylometazoline aerosol can also be used to improve the functioning of Eustachian tubes and to compensate for pressure in the middle ear during the flight (especially during landing) and deep diving. After using the preparation, the vasoconstrictor usually occurs within 5-10 minutes after administration. Decrease of nasal congestion is usually maintained for 6-8 h. At the correct dosage, the absorption of the drug into the circulation is minimal.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients. Glaucoma with closed angle of perception. Dry atrophic rhinitis. Do not use after transcranial pituitary resection and surgical procedures from the access through the nose or mouth, during which the hard tire is exposed.
Precautions:
Caution should be exercised in patients with a strong response to sympathomimetic medicinal products (these patients may cause, for example, insomnia, dizziness, tremors, arrhythmias or increased blood pressure). Caution should be exercised when treating patients with cardiovascular disease, hypertension, hyperthyroidism or diabetes, and with prostatic hyperplasia and pheochromocytoma. After discontinuation of long-term treatment with Xylometazoline, symptoms of cold and mucosal edema may recur. In this case, it may be a so-called reflection reaction caused by the drug itself. To prevent this, treatment should be carried out for the shortest possible period. The product at a concentration of 1 mg / ml should not be used in children under 10 years of age; preparation at a concentration of 0.5 mg / ml - in children under 2 years.
Pregnancy and lactation:
There are no data on the penetration of xylometazoline through the placenta and in breast milk. Due to the possibility of systemic action of vasoconstrictor, the preparation should not be used during pregnancy. Caution should be exercised when using the product during breastfeeding.
Side effects:
Common: stinging or burning sensation in the nose and throat, dryness of the nasal mucosa. Rare: systemic allergic reactions, nervousness, insomnia, pain and dizziness, transient visual disturbances, palpitations, increased blood pressure, nausea.
