Swelling of the nasal mucosa occurring in paranasal sinusitis, acute rhinitis, seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.
Composition:
1 ml of solution contains 0.5 mg of oxymetazoline hydrochloride.
Action:
Sympathomimetic acting on α-adrenergic receptors in the nasal mucosa. Narrows blood vessels, reduces congestion of the mucous membrane and swelling of altered mucositis and inhibits excessive secretion. It clears the nasal passages leading to the sinuses, making it easier to breathe. The effect of the drug starts after 5-10 min and lasts 6-8 h. Oxymetazoline, especially when used in too high doses, may be absorbed from the nasal mucosa and have side effects. The drug is excreted in urine and faeces. T0,5 is 35 hours.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to oxymetazoline or other components of the preparation. Chronic atrophic rhinitis.
Precautions:
Do not use the product in infants and children under 6 years of age. The preparation should be used with caution and only after careful consideration of the benefits and risks of patients with: cardiovascular diseases (eg ischemic heart disease, hypertension); with increased intraocular pressure, especially narrow-angle glaucoma; with prostatic hyperplasia; with a pheochromocytoma; with metabolic diseases (e.g., diabetes, hyperthyroidism); concomitantly using MAO inhibitors and other drugs that increase blood pressure. Due to the content of benzalkonium chloride, the preparation may cause irritation of blood pressure.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Only use the preparation during pregnancy and breastfeeding if the anticipated benefits to the mother outweigh the potential risk to the fetus.
Side effects:
Common: feelings of stinging and burning pain at the injection site; dryness of the nasal mucosa, sneezing. Uncommon: palpitations, tachycardia; increase in blood pressure. Rare: strong feeling of "blocking" of the nose (reactive hyperemia); headache and dizziness, anxiety, fatigue, insomnia. In case of prolonged or frequent use, especially at doses greater than those recommended after 5-7 days, nasal rhinitis may occur, and persistent damage to the nasal mucous membrane and drying of rhinitis may occur with continued treatment.
Dosage:
Intranasally. Adults and children over 6 years: 1-2 drops in each nostril 2-3 times a day. Do not use the preparation more than 3 times a day.
