Nose drops: swelling of mucous membranes occurring in: ACUTE, vasomotor or allergic rhinitis, inflammation of the paranasal sinuses, the eustachian tube, middle ear.Nasal gel: swelling of the mucous membranes occurring in: acute or allergic rhinitis, inflammation of the paranasal sinuses.
Composition:
1 ml of solution or 1 g of nasal gel contains 0.25 mg or 0.5 mg of oxymetazoline hydrochloride. The drug contains benzalkonium chloride.
Action:
Sympathomimetic. Applied locally to the nasal mucous membrane, it causes vasoconstriction, inhibits excessive secretion and reduces swelling of the inflamed nasal mucosa. It improves patency of the nasal passages, facilitates the outflow of secretions from the paranasal sinuses and enables free breathing through the nose. The preparation works within a few minutes and lasts for 6-8 hours. T0,5 is 35 hours.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. Dry rhinitis.
Precautions:
The drug should be used with particular caution and only after careful consideration of the benefit-risk balance in the case of: treatment with MAO inhibitors and other drugs that increase blood pressure; increased intraocular pressure, especially in the case of closed-angle glaucoma; severe diseases of the heart and blood vessels, e.g. ischemic heart disease, hypertension; phaeochromic adrenal tumor; metabolic disorders, e.g. hyperthyroidism, diabetes. Long-term use and abuse of drugs that reduce nasal edema may lead to their weakening, damage to the epithelial cells of the nasal mucosa, inhibition of cilia and irreversible damage to the nasal mucosa and dry rhinitis. Due to the content of benzalkonium chloride, the drug may cause irritation of the nasal mucosa.
Pregnancy and lactation:
It can only be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding if the anticipated benefits to the mother outweigh the potential risk to the fetus. Do not increase the recommended dose because overdose may interfere with fetal blood supply and reduce milk secretion.
Side effects:
Common: burning at the site of administration, dry mucous membrane, sneezing. Uncommon: palpitations, tachycardia, increase in blood pressure. Rare: severity of nasal mucous membrane (occurs after cessation of drug action), restlessness, insomnia, headache, fatigue. Long-term or frequent use, especially at higher doses than recommended, may lead to drug-induced rhinitis.
Dosage:
