indications:
Drops: acute rhinitis of viral or allergic origin, sinusitis. Aerosol: swelling of the nasal mucosa in the course of colds, flu, inflammation of the paranasal sinuses, allergic and acute rhinitis, auditory tube inflammation, otitis media and in the diagnosis to reduce mucosal edema.
Composition:
1 ml of solution (nasal drops) contains 0.1 mg, 0.25 mg or 0.5 mg of oxymetazoline hydrochloride. 1 ml of solution (nasal spray) contains 0.5 mg of oxymetazoline hydrochloride.
Action:
An imidazoline derivative with sympathomimetic effect, an α-adrenergic receptor agonist. Narrows the blood vessels of the nasal mucous membrane and throat, reducing its congestion, edema and exudation. It clears nasal passages and leads from the nasal cavity to the paranasal sinuses, making it easier to breathe through the nose. Operation starts after 5-10 min and maintains up to 12 hours.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to oxymetazoline or any of the other ingredients. Chronic atrophic rhinitis. Glaucoma.
Precautions:
Do not use together with MAO inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants. The droplet should not be used in children until the age of 3 months; aerosol - in children under 6 years. In patients with hypertension, hyperthyroidism, heart disease, diabetes, prostatic hyperplasia, use only after consultation with a physician.
Pregnancy and lactation:
During pregnancy and feeding the preparation may only be used after careful consideration of the benefit to risk, and the recommended dose should not be increased.
Side effects:
The use of more than 3 days may sometimes cause burning and dryness of the nasal mucosa and its secondary swelling and congestion (drug-induced polytosis), as well as sneezing. Pain and dizziness, palpitations, arrhythmias, increased blood pressure, insomnia, nervousness, weakness have been rarely observed.
Dosage:
Adults and children from 7 years of age: 2-3 drops 0.05% for each nostril every 10-12 h; aerosol: 1 dose for each nostril 2-3 times a day. Children 2-7 years old: 2-3 drops 0.025% every 10-12 hours to each nostril. Infants 4-12 months: 1-2 drops 0.01% every 10-12 hours to each nostril using a cotton swab.
