To reduce mucosal edema in rhinitis and to treat nasal mucosal damage. In the treatment of vasomotor rhinitis. For the treatment of obstruction of the nasal passages after a nasal surgery.
Composition:
One ml of solution for adults contains: 1 mg of Xylometazoline hydrochloride and 50 mg of dexopanthenol; 1 dose (0.1 ml) contains: 0.1 mg of xylometazoline hydrochloride and 5 mg of dexopanthenol. 1 ml solution for children contains: 0.5 mg of xylometazoline hydrochloride and 50 mg of dexopanthenol; 1 dose (0.1 ml) contains: 0.05 mg of xylometazoline hydrochloride and 5 mg of dexopanthenol.
Action:
The preparation is a combination of α-sympathomimetic with a vitamin analog used externally on the nasal mucosa. Xylometazoline has vasoconstrictive properties and therefore reduces the blockage of the nose. Dexopanthenol is a derivative of vitamin, pantothenic acid, with wound healing properties and protection of the nasal mucosa. Occasionally, in the case of intranasal administration of xylometazoline hydrochloride, the amount of drug absorbed may be sufficient to induce systemic effects, e.g. within the o.u.n. and circulatory system.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients. Dry rhinitis (rhinitis sicca). After transcranial removal of the pituitary gland or surgery, during which the dura mater was unveiled. Septanazal for adults is contraindicated in children under 6 years of age. Septanazal for children is contraindicated in children under 2 years of age.
Precautions:
It should only be used after a careful benefit / risk assessment in patients taking MAO inhibitors and other medicines that potentially increase blood pressure; increased intraocular pressure, especially for narrow-angle glaucoma; serious cardiovascular diseases (ischemic heart disease, hypertension); pheochromocytoma; metabolic diseases (hyperthyroidism, diabetes); porphyria; prostatic hyperplasia. Due to the risk of rhinitis, the drug can be used during chronic rhinitis only under the supervision of a physician. Long-term use and use of doses greater than the recommended sympathomimetic drugs may lead to reactive nasal congestion. This effect leads to the narrowing of the airways, which causes the patient to repeatedly use the preparation until its use becomes permanent. The consequence of this is secondary drug-induced rhinitis (rhinitis medicamentosa) or even atrophy of the nasal mucosa. In milder cases, discontinuation of sympathomimetic drugs in one of the nasal openings may be considered, and after symptoms disappear, administered in the second nasal cavity to maintain nasal breathing. Avoid direct contact with the eyes. In the event of improper use or the use of excessive aerosol, absorption of xylometazoline may cause systemic side effects, especially in children (side effects from cardiovascular and nervous system diseases). In order to avoid an increased risk of cardiovascular and nervous systems, it is not recommended to use the preparation with drugs used in the local or systemic treatment of influenza and sympathomimetics contained in medicines for cough and cold (eg pseudoephedrine, ephedrine, phenylephrine, oxymetazoline, Xylometazoline, tramazoline, naphazoline, tuaminoheptane).
Pregnancy and lactation:
There are no adequate data on the use of xylometazoline hydrochloride in pregnant women - it is not recommended during pregnancy. It is not known whether xylometazoline hydrochloride is excreted in human breast milk - it is not recommended for women who are breastfeeding.
Side effects:
Uncommon: hypersensitivity reactions (angioneurotic edema, skin rash, pruritus). Rare: palpitations, tachycardia, hypertension.Very rare: anxiety, insomnia, fatigue (drowsiness, sedation), headache, hallucinations (mainly in children), swelling of the nasal turbinates from "rebound", nosebleeds, tremors (especially in children). Frequency unknown: burning or dry mucous membrane, sneezing.
Dosage:
Septanazal for adults. Adults: the recommended dose is one spray in each nostril up to three times a day, if necessary. The dosage depends on the individual sensitivity of the patient and the clinical response. Do not use for more than 7 days, unless your doctor tells you otherwise. Re-use is possible only after a few days break. Children under 12 years of age should use the medicine under the care of adults. If no improvement or worsening of symptoms is noticed after 3 days of treatment, the clinical evaluation should be re-evaluated. Children over 6 years of age: the recommended dose is one dose of spray into each nostril, up to three times a day. To determine the duration of use, consult a physician.Septanazal for children. Children from 2 to 6 years of age: the recommended dose is one dose of spray into each nostril up to three times a day. To determine the duration of use, consult a physician.
