indications:
Symptomatic treatment of nasal obstruction.
Composition:
1 dose of spray (50 μl) contains approximately 25 μg of oxymetazoline hydrochloride. The product contains sorbitol, benzalkonium chloride.
Action:
Oxymetazoline is a directly acting sympathomimetic amine. It acts on α-adrenergic receptors in the vessels of the nasal mucosa, narrowing them and reducing congestion. The effect of the drug occurs in a few minutes and maintains 6-8 h. When applied topically to the nasal mucosa, no significant clinical absorption of oxymetazoline is observed.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to oxymetazoline hydrochloride or other components of the drug. Concomitant use of MAO inhibitors or their use in the last 2 weeks. Glaucoma with a narrow angle of perception. Patients after transclinical hypophysectomy. acute coronary heart disease or shortness of breath in the course of heart failure. Inflammation of the skin or mucosa of the nasal vestibule and drying of the nasal mucosa. It must not be used in children under the age of 6 years.
Precautions:
Caution should be exercised in case of hypertension, heart disease, including angina pectoris, hyperthyroidism, diabetes and prostatic hyperplasia. If symptoms worsen or do not improve after 3 days of use, the patient should be re-evaluated. The drug contains benzalkonium chloride, which can cause nasal mucous membrane swelling, especially during long-term use. If such a reaction (chronic nasal obstruction) is suspected, other nasal preservative-free medicines should be used. If the medication for nasal use, without preservatives, is unavailable, consideration should be given to using the drug in a different form.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Caution should be exercised when taking the drug during pregnancy and during breastfeeding, as oxymetazoline may penetrate into the systemic circulation. The results of animal studies do not indicate direct or indirect harmful effects with respect to pregnancy, embryonal / fetal development, parturition and postnatal development. It has not been shown whether oxymetazoline hydrochloride is excreted in human milk. Do not exceed the recommended dose, because overdose can reduce the flow of placental blood and milk production.
Side effects:
Uncommon: sneezing, dryness and irritation of the nasal mucosa, mouth and throat. Rare: anxiety, sedation, irritability, sleep disturbance in children, tachycardia, palpitations, increased blood pressure, reactive hyperemia, headache, nausea, rash and blurred vision. The use of the drug for a longer period than recommended may lead to the weakening of the action and / or re-congestion of the nasal mucosa.
