Composition:
1 tabl contains 15 mg dextromethorphan hydrobromide; tablets contain lactose. 5 ml of Acodin 150 Junior syrup contains 7.5 mg dextromethorphan hydrobromide and 50 mg dexpanthenol; 5 ml of Acodin 300 syrup contains 15 mg dextromethorphan hydrobromide and 50 mg dexpanthenol; syrups contain sucrose.
Action:
The preparation with antitussive effect. It works centrally by inhibiting the cough center in the medulla. In therapeutic doses does not affect the respiratory center and does not inhibit the function of the ciliary bronchial epithelium. It is well absorbed from the digestive tract. The antitussive effect occurs approximately 15-30 minutes after administration and lasts for 5-6 h. It is metabolised in the liver to the active metabolite - dextrorphan. Is excreted in the urine. There are large individual differences in the metabolism of dextromethorphan. In addition, Dexpanthenol undergoes oxidation in the body to pantothenic acid, which supports the regeneration of the respiratory mucous membranes.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to dextromethorphan or other components of the preparation. Bronchial asthma. Respiratory failure or risk of its occurrence. Do not use while taking MAO inhibitors and for 14 days after discontinuation.
Precautions:
Do not use in patients with respiratory diseases associated with the production of an increased amount of mucus (eg in bronchitis). In patients with hepatic, renal and elderly failure reduce the dose or increase the intervals between them. Use caution in people who abuse alcohol or medications, patients with a history of mental illness. Due to the lactose content, tablets should not be used in patients with galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or malabsorption of glucose-galactose. Due to the sucrose content, syrup should not be used in patients with fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase deficiency.
Pregnancy and lactation:
It can only be used during pregnancy if the anticipated benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. Do not use during breast-feeding.
Side effects:
Rare: slight drowsiness, dizziness, disturbances on the part of the gastrointestinal tract.
Dosage:
Orally.tablets. Adults and children over 12 years: 1 tabl. (15 mg) every 4 h or 2 tablets. (30 mg) every 6-8 h; the maximum daily dose is 8 tablets (120 mg).Syrup. Adults and children over 12 years: 5 ml of Acodin 300 syrup or 10 ml of Acodin 150 Junior syrup up to 4 times a day. Children from 6 to 12 years: 5 ml of Acodin 150 Junior syrup up to 4 times a day. The preparation can be taken with or without food.
