Symptomatic treatment of unproductive (dry) cough of various origins.
Composition:
1 ml of syrup contains 1.5 mg of butamirate citrate. The preparation contains liquid maltitol.
Action:
Non-opioid antitussive drug with central effect. Its exact mechanism of action is unknown. The drug has anticholinergic properties and dilates the bronchi, which facilitates breathing. It does not cause habituation or addiction. He is well tolerated. Butamirate in the form of an ester is quickly and well absorbed after oral administration. Then it is metabolized by hydrolysis to 2 metabolites (phenyl-2-butyric acid and diethylaminoethoxyethanol), which also have antitussive effects. The phenyl-2-butyric acid is partially metabolised by hydroxylation in a further step. Metabolites are excreted mainly via the kidneys; acid metabolites are excreted in a large amount in a form conjugated to glucuronic acid. T0,5 is 6-26 h.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation.
Precautions:
Due to the action of butamirate citrate causing cough reflex inhibition, concomitant use of expectorants should be avoided because it may cause mucus in the airways, which increases the risk of bronchospasm and respiratory tract infections. Do not use in children under the age of 3 years. Due to the content of liquid maltitol (1 ml of syrup contains 598 mg), the drug should not be used in patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance. The preparation may have a slight laxative effect.
Pregnancy and lactation:
The product is not recommended for use during pregnancy and in women of childbearing potential not using an effective method of contraception. The medicine should not be used during breast-feeding.
Orally. Adults: 15 ml of syrup (22.5 mg) 4 times a day. Adolescents over 12 years: 15 ml of syrup (22.5 mg) 3 times a day. Children 6-12 years: 10 ml of syrup (15 mg) 3 times a day. Children 3-6 years: 5 ml of syrup (7.5 mg) 3 times a day. The maximum duration of treatment is 1 week; if after this time the cough persists, the diagnosis should be verified.
