Dry cough in the course of inflammation of the upper respiratory tract, e.g. colds, flu, throat inflammation.
Composition:
5 ml of syrup contains 6.5 mg dextromethorphan hydrobromide, 426 mg of pine extract and 65 mg of tincture. The drug contains up to 7% (m / v) ethanol.
Action:
The main component of the preparation - dextromethorphan hydrobromide - has antitussive activity, is a non-competitive NMDA receptor inhibitor o.u.n. It is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract (94-97%). The effect occurs after 10-30 min and persists for 6-8 h. The substance is partially metabolized in the liver, excreted in the urine in the form of metabolites. T0,5 is 5-8 hours.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation. A cough with a lot of secretion. Asthma. Severe liver disease. Concomitant use of MAO inhibitors. Simultaneous use with mucolytics.
Precautions:
In children aged 4-6 years, the use of the preparation may be considered with particular caution (the maximum daily dose is 30 g). There are no studies on the use of the product in infants and young children, therefore it is not recommended for use in children under 4 years of age. Due to the sucrose content, caution should be used in patients with diabetes and should not be used in patients with rare inherited disorders associated with fructose intolerance, malabsorption of glucose-galactose or deficiency of sucrase-isomaltase. Due to the ethanol content (15 ml syrup contains 1.1 g ethanol), the drug can not be used in liver damage, alcoholism, epilepsy, brain damage and mental illness.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Do not use during pregnancy and breast-feeding (no tests).
Side effects:
The following may occur: allergic reactions (pruritus, urticaria, eczema, diarrhea), drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting.
Dosage:
Orally. Adults and children from 12 years: 15 ml of syrup 3 times a day; the maximum daily dose of dextromethorphan is 120 mg. Children 6-11 years: 5 ml of syrup 3 times a day; the maximum daily dose of dextromethorphan is 60 mg.
