Supportive in acute and chronic diseases of the respiratory tract, with difficulty in coughing up sticky bronchial secretions ie: emphysema, bronchial asthma, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, bronchitis, laryngitis. In addition, tabl. supportive of pneumonia.
Composition:
5 ml of syrup contains 15 mg (junior) or 30 mg of Ambroxol hydrochloride; the syrup contains sorbitol. 1 tabl contains 30 mg ambroxol hydrochloride; Table. contain lactose.
Action:
An expectorant and mucolytic drug, a metabolite of bromohexine. It stimulates Type II pulmonary cells to produce a surfactant that reduces the surface tension of alveoli and facilitates gas exchange. Ambroxol reduces the density and viscosity of mucus and its adhesion to the walls of bronchioles and bronchi. At the beginning of treatment a transient increase in the volume of bronchial secretion is observed. Ambroxol is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, reaching Cmax within 2.5 h (administration on an empty stomach). Bioavailability is 60% (about 1/3 of the dose is broken down by the first passage through the liver). Ambroxol is metabolized in the liver to active metabolites. T0,5 is 9 hours. It is mainly excreted in the urine as metabolites. Less than 10% is excreted unchanged.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation.
Precautions:
Use with caution in patients with: peptic ulcer of the stomach or duodenum; with kidney failure and / or liver; with weakened cough reflexes or impaired ciliary purification of the bronchi (risk of secretion); with bronchial asthma (the drug may initially cough and cause excessive coughing). At the beginning of treatment an excessive amount of fluid bronchial secretion may appear; you should then cough to expectorate the diluted secretion or suck up the secretion. Due to the sorbitol content, syrup should not be used in patients with rare hereditary fructose intolerance. Due to the lactose content, tablets should not be used in patients with galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or malabsorption of glucose-galactose.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Use only in case of extreme necessity. Ambroxol is excreted in milk - the drug should be used with caution while breastfeeding.
Side effects:
The following may occur: heartburn, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, allergic reactions (skin lesions, urticaria, angioedema, anaphylactic shock, fever, shortness of breath, chills, swelling of the face, headache), dryness of the oral mucosa. Rarely: disorder. Very rare: Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis.
