Cough with difficult expectoration in the course of inflammation of the airways.
Composition:
100 g of syrup contains 40 mg bromohexine hydrochloride and 36 g of liquid, aqueous (1: 3) extract from plantain leaves and mullein blossoms.
Action:
Syrup with an expectorant effect. Bromohexine liquefies and reduces the viscosity of bronchial secretion, by depolymerising acid polysaccharides and stimulating glandular cells to produce neutral polysaccharides and reducing the content of albumin in the mucus. It also increases the production of surfactant in the bronchial tree. It restores the proper function of the cilia, which enables quick and effective cleansing of the airways from secretions. Almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, reaching Cmax after about 1 hour. As a result of the first pass it undergoes 75-80% metabolism in the liver. Some metabolites (ambroxol) work more strongly than the parent compound. It is 99% bound to plasma proteins. It is excreted in the urine (85%) in the form of metabolites (about 0.1% of the dose in unmetabolized form) and in a small amount in the faeces. T0,5 is 12 h. Extract from plantain and mullein soothes irritations of the mucous membranes of the mouth and throat.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation.
Precautions:
Do not use in patients with active peptic ulcer disease (the drug may worsen the symptoms of the disease). Particularly cautiously use in patients with bronchial asthma. In the case of hepatic or renal failure, Bromhexine metabolites may accumulate in these organs. Due to the sucrose content, do not use in patients with rare inherited disorders associated with fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase deficiency.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Due to the unrecognized risk of toxic effects, do not use during pregnancy and breastfeeding (the drug penetrates into breast milk).
Side effects:
The following may occur: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, worsening of peptic ulcer symptoms, allergic reactions (eg skin reactions, as well as bronchospasm, angioneurotic edema or anaphylactic reaction). Very rare: pain and dizziness.
Dosage:
Orally. Adults and children> 12 years: 10 ml 3 times a day. Children 6-12 years: 5 ml 3-4 times a day. A lot of fluids should be taken during treatment.
