1 g of syrup contains 20 mg guaifenesin. The product contains sucrose and ethanol.
Action:
An expectorant drug. Guaifenesin increases the secretion of mucus in the bronchi and reduces the density and viscosity of the bronchial secretion, making it easier to expectorate. After oral administration, they are well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, reaching a maximum concentration after 15-30 min. It binds to 37% of blood proteins. T0,5 is about 1 hour. It is metabolized in the liver. About 60% of the administered dose of guaifenefins undergoes hydrolysis within 7 hours of administration. Guaifenesine and its metabolites are excreted through the kidneys, with approximately 95% of the administered dose excreted in the urine within 24 hours.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to guaifenesin or any of the ingredients.
Precautions:
Due to the ethanol content, the drug should not be used in children under the age of 6, as well as in patients with liver insufficiency, alcoholism, epilepsy, brain damage, mental illness. The preparation should be used with caution in patients with hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, prostatic hyperplasia and glaucoma (using phenylpropanolamine). The product should not be used in bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema or chronic cough in smokers. If the cough persists for more than a week, returns or accompanied by fever, rash, chronic headache should stop using the preparation and verify the diagnosis. Due to the sucrose content, the preparation may have an adverse effect in patients with diabetes mellitus, in people with glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome, with fructose intolerance or in people with sucrase-isomaltase deficiency.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Due to the ethanol content, the preparation should not be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Side effects:
The drug may cause discomfort in the stomach, nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, vomiting, skin rash, urticaria.
Dosage:
Orally.Children from 6 to 12 years old: 5 ml of syrup (1 teaspoon) 3 to 4 times a day.Adults and children over 12 years: 15 ml of syrup (1 tablespoon) 3 to 4 times a day.
