5 ml syrup contains 125 mg guaifenesin. The syrup contains: sucrose, ethyl parahydroxybenzoate, ethanol and cochineal red.
Action:
Expectorant. After oral administration, it increases the volume of mucus in the bronchi and trachea, and also reduces its viscosity. Thanks to this, it relieves the cough and makes it easier to expel the secretion. The mechanism of action is not finally understood; It is associated either with direct effects on the secretory glands or irritation of the mucous membrane of the stomach and the increase of mucus secretion in the bronchi in the reflex. Guaifenesin is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and its T0,5 is about 1 hour. Metabolized in the liver and excreted in the urine in the form of biologically inactive compounds.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
Precautions:
If the cough is persistent, lasts longer than a week, returns or accompanied by fever, rash or persistent headaches, the cause of cough should be determined and appropriate treatment should be taken as coughing may be a symptom of serious diseases. In smokers, patients with bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis or emphysema, guaifenesin should be used with caution and after the doctor considers the benefit / risk ratio. The product contains sucrose - should not be used in patients with rare inherited disorders associated with fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase deficiency.
