Supportive treatment of respiratory diseases with excessive production of thick and sticky secretions: bronchitis, cystic fibrosis. As an aid to middle ear inflammation.
Composition:
1 ml of syrup contains 50 mg of carbocysteine; the syrup contains sorbitol, glycerol and methyl p-hydroxybenzoate.
Action:
Mucolytic drug. Carbocysteine affects the amount and type of mucosal glycoproteins secreted by the respiratory tract. It normalizes the secretory functions of the epithelial mucosa of the airways, reduces the viscosity of the secretion, facilitates expectoration and reduces the frequency of coughing attacks. It is quickly absorbed from the digestive tract, reaching Cmax during 1-1.7 hours. It penetrates well into the airways. The main routes of metabolism are acetylation, decarboxylation and sulfoxylation. It is excreted in the urine in unchanged form and in the form of metabolites. T0,5 is 1.33 hours.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to carbocysteine or to any of the excipients. Active peptic ulcer of the stomach or duodenum.
Precautions:
Exercise caution in patients with a history of ulcer of the digestive tract. Due to the sorbitol content, the preparation should not be used in patients with fructose intolerance. Due to the content of propyl p-hydroxybenzoate, the preparation may cause allergic reactions (possible late-type reactions).
Pregnancy and lactation:
Use during pregnancy and breast-feeding is not recommended.
Side effects:
Rare: nausea, diarrhea. Very rare: gastrointestinal bleeding, stomach upset, abdominal pain. Isolated cases: headache, allergic reactions (skin rash, pruritus, urticaria). In patients who are hypersensitive, there may be inflammation of the mouth and nose.
Dosage:
Orally. Adults: 750 mg (15 ml) 3 times a day for 7 days, then 500 mg (10 ml) 3 times a day. In acute conditions syrup is used for 8-10 days, in chronic conditions it can be used for 10-21 days. Take after meals. Do not take the medicine immediately before bedtime.
