Action:
The dextromethorphan derivative of fenantren exhibits antitussive activity. It inhibits the cough center at o.u.n. Its potency is comparable to the equivalent dose of codeine, but it does not cause the side effects typical for codeine (breathing disorder, pulmonary edema, constipation, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, headache, dependence). In therapeutic doses dextromethorphan does not inhibit the function of the ciliary bronchial epithelium. It is absorbed quickly from the gastrointestinal tract, the action occurs after 15-30 minutes. from the moment of serving. The therapeutic effect lasts for 6 hours, in children it is half longer. T0,5 is 5-9 h. It is excreted mainly in the urine in the form of metabolites (80-90%) and in unchanged form (10-20%). Dextromethorphan passes into breast milk. The syrup does not contain sugar, it can be used by people with diabetes.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation. Cough with high secretion, bronchial asthma, respiratory failure or risk of its occurrence, treatment with MAO inhibitors, severe hepatic insufficiency. Children under 7 years.
Precautions:
Use cautiously in patients with damaged liver, epilepsy, brain injuries, mental illness and alcoholics (due to ethanol content).
Pregnancy and lactation:
There are no data on the safety of use during pregnancy. The preparation should not be used in pregnant women due to the possibility of inhibiting the fetal respiratory center and the ethanol content. Do not use during breast-feeding.
