Treatment of respiratory tract diseases with thick bronchial secretions, requiring thinning. Cystic fibrosis.
Composition:
5 g of powder for solution (1 sachet) contains 200 mg, 400 mg or 600 mg of acetylcysteine. The preparation contains sucrose; in addition, 400 mg sachets contain quinoline yellow, and 600 mg cochineal sachets.
Action:
Mucolytic drug. It reduces the viscosity of airway secretion, facilitates expectoration and improves breathing and relieves tiring cough. The mechanism of action is the disruption of disulfide bridges between the molecules of mucus deposited in the airways. The drug also has antioxidant activity and neutralizes free radicals in cells altered by inflammatory processes. After oral administration, the drug is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The maximum concentration in the blood occurs after 0.5-1 h. The bioavailability is 4-10%. Acetylcysteine is metabolised in the liver. T0,5 elimination is about 6 hours. Approx. 30% of the dose is eliminated by the kidneys.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to acetylcysteine or to any of the excipients. Do not use in children under 2 years of age.
Precautions:
The use of acetylcysteine may increase the volume of bronchial secretions. With particular caution the drug should be used in patients with asthma; in the case of the occurrence and persistence of bronchospasm, the preparation should be discontinued. The preparation should be used with caution in patients with stomach and duodenum disease, in elderly patients and in patients with severe bronchial insufficiency. The drug should not be given to patients with a reduced coughing ability if they are not provided to the patient during treatment with respiratory physiotherapy. The product contains sucrose - approx. 0.4 bread unit in 1 sachet (5 g) - this should be taken into account in patients with diabetes. It should not be used in patients with rare inherited disorders associated with fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase deficiency. 400 mg sachets contain quinoline yellow, and 600 mg cochineal sachets that may cause allergic reactions.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Do not use the product during pregnancy and breastfeeding if it is not necessary.
Side effects:
Very rarely, in the initial period of use, there may be bronchospasm, excessive secretion of mucus, irritating cough. High doses may cause nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, vasodilation and sudden redness of the face.
Dosage:
Orally. Adults and children over 14 years: up to 600 mg per day; children from 6 to 14 years old: up to 400 mg daily; children from 2 to 6 years old: up to 300 mg daily.In cystic fibrosis: children over 6 years: up to 600 mg per day; children from 2 to 6 years old: up to 400 mg daily. The contents of the sachet should be dissolved in a glass of water and drunk immediately after reconstitution. Do not divide the contents of the sachet. Avoid contact of the solution with metals (especially with iron, nickel and copper) and rubber.
