Emergency symptomatic treatment of an ACUTE, dry cough that is not associated with secretion in the airways.
Composition:
1 capsule contains 15 mg or 30 mg dextromethorphan hydrobromide. The product contains sorbitol, cochineal red, propylene glycol.
Action:
Antitussive drug. Dextromethorphan acts on the cough center in the medulla, raising its threshold of sensitivity and thereby suppressing the cough reflex. After oral administration, the drug is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The effect starts within 15-30 minutes after administration, lasting for about 5-6 h. Metabolized in the liver with the participation of CYP2D6. It is excreted by the kidneys in unchanged form and in the form of metabolites. T0,5 dextromethorphan is 1.5-4 h, and its active metabolite - dextrorphan - 3.5-5.5 h.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to dextromethorphan or other ingredients of the preparation. Bronchial asthma. Severe hepatic failure. Respiratory failure or risk of its occurrence. The preparation should not be used in patients with chronic cough, emphysema, chronic bronchitis. Do not use during treatment with MAO inhibitors or within 14 days after stopping MAO inhibitors. Do not use the product when breastfeeding. Do not use in children under 12 years.
Precautions:
Do not use the preparation for coughing with expectoration. In patients with liver failure, caution and dose reduction should be used, due to the risk of disturbance of the metabolism of the drug and an increased risk of accumulation. If, despite using the drug, cough persists for more than 7 days, or the disease occurs with a fever, headache, rash, appropriate treatment should be given. Do not use this medicine with other preparations containing dextromethorphan (risk of overdosing). The preparation contains sorbitol - it should not be used in patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance. The product contains propylene glycol and cochineal cilinder which may cause allergic reactions.
Pregnancy and lactation:
It is not recommended during pregnancy, due to the lack of a sufficient number of tests. The use of the drug in the final period of pregnancy may result in impaired respiratory function in the newborn. The preparation is contraindicated during breastfeeding; drug passes into breast milk - in breastfed infants, mothers using dextromethorphan may experience a decrease in blood pressure and stop breathing.
Side effects:
Rare: confusion, drowsiness, pain and dizziness, stomach pains, constipation or diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, allergic reactions (rash, urticaria, angioedema, bronchospasm).
Dosage:
Orally. Adults and children ≥12 years: 15-30 mg every 6-8 h. Do not use more than 120 mg daily.
