Action:
Expectorant. Guaifenesin is the ether of guaiacol and glycerol. It shows an increase in secretion (volume and type of secretion), as well as facilitating the expectoration of secretions and significantly reducing the frequency of cough. After oral administration of guaixesine at a dose of 600 mg, the maximum blood concentration was 1.4 mg / ml, and T0,5 in the final phase of elimination - 1 h. Metabolic metabolism of guaifenesine includes hydrolysis and oxidation. The main metabolic products in humans: O-desmethyl-guaifenesine and hydroxy-indifenesine. In patients with impaired renal function, the excretion of guaifenesin is slowed down.

Guaifenesin is excreted in breast milk.

Very rare: Hypersensitivity reactions such as difficulty swallowing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, severe itching with rash or swelling of the skin, coma, confusion, bradycardia, bronchospasm, dyspnoea, granulocytopenia and anaphylactic shock. Orally. Adults and adolescents aged> 14 years: 15 ml every 4 hours, up to 6 doses (15 ml each) per day. The drug can be used alone by patients for no more than 3-5 days; if there is no significant improvement after this period, and expectoration of secretions or persistent cough persists, it may suggest a more serious illness, the patient's condition should be re-evaluated.
