indications:
Chronic constipation. Hepatic encephalopathy.
Composition:
15 ml of syrup contains 7.5 g of lactulose.
Action:
The preparation contains a synthetic disaccharide (lactulose), not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. After oral administration it is broken down into lactic acid and small amounts of formic acid and acetic acid by the bacterial flora in the large intestine. As a result, the osmotic pressure is increased, the water stops and, as a result, the contents of the large intestine are loosened and the peristalsis stimulated. Acidification of the contents of the large intestine inhibits the growth of bacteria that break down proteins and causes the transformation of ammonia into an ammonium ion that is not absorbed from the intestine into the bloodstream and is excreted in the faeces. The preparation is slightly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Approximately 3% of the dose is excreted in the urine in unchanged form within 24 h. Laxation usually occurs after 1-2 days of taking the full dose.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation. Bowel obstruction. Galactosemia. Lactose intolerance.
Precautions:
Carefully used in patients with diabetes due to small amounts of lactose and galactose.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Safety in pregnancy: category B (according to US FDA). Due to the lack of adequate, controlled studies in humans, it is allowed to use the preparation in pregnant women and breastfeeding only when the anticipated benefits to the mother outweigh the potential risk to the fetus or fed child.
Side effects:
During the first few days of use, flatulence and bowel cramps, belching and discomfort in the abdominal cavity may occur, which disappear after reducing the dose. If diarrhea is used at high doses, diarrhea, hypernatremia, hypokalaemia, and, in extreme cases, acid-base disorders may occur. Nausea and vomiting occur sporadically.
Dosage:
Orally, individually. Adults: constipation - usually 45 ml (3 tablespoons) before breakfast or 15 ml (1 tablespoon) 3 times daily before meals, after the effect of using 15 ml of fasting syrup; in hepatic encephalopathy - 120-180 ml daily in 3-4 doses. Children: in constipation, initially: infants - 2.5 ml, children up to 3 years - 5 ml, over 3 years - 5-15 ml per day; then the dose can be gradually increased every 3 days until normal bowel movements are achieved. If you develop abdominal flatulence dose reduce to tolerated by the child. It is recommended to administer the preparation after dilution with water, fruit juice or milk.
