Constipation. Prevention and treatment of hepatic encephalopathy.
Composition:
5 ml of syrup contains 2.5 g of liquid lactulose.
Action:
The product contains a synthetic disaccharide (lactulose), which is slightly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Lactulose is broken down in the colon (mainly by bacteria from the familyLactobacillus and Bacteroides) to lactic, formic and acetic acid together with carbon dioxide. Acids reduce pH in the colon from 7 to 55,5.5 and have a local osmotic effect, causing water retention in the large intestine. As a result, the content of the large intestine relaxes and stimulates intestinal peristalsis. In addition, acidification of the contents of the large intestine causes the transformation of ammonia into an ammonium ion that is not absorbed from the intestine into the bloodstream and is excreted in the faeces. The consequence of this is a reduction in the concentration of ammonia in the blood, which is important in patients with hepatic encephalopathy. Lactulose is slightly absorbed (up to 3% of the dose) from the digestive tract. It is excreted in the urine within 24 hours. Laxative effects are observed 24-48 hours after administration of the drug.
