A laxative for short-term use in constipation due to nutritional errors.
Composition:
1 sachet contains 1 g senes leaf, equivalent to 25-30 mg of hydroxyanthracene glycosides calculated as converted to sennoside B.
Action:
Vegetable preparation with a laxative effect. Sodium anthranoid glycosides and their active metabolite, reinoanthone, stimulate peristalsis in the jejunum leaf, reduce fluid absorption, which causes softening of faecal matter and facilitates defecation. Defecation occurs after 8-12 h which is caused by the time of transport to the colon and conversion into the active compound. Sennosides are neither absorbed in the intestine nor broken down by human digestive enzymes. They are converted by colon bacteria into active metabolites (reinatrons). After oral administration of synnozides, 3-6% of the metabolites are excreted in the urine, some are excreted in the bile. Most synnosides (about 90%) are excreted in the faeces as polymers (polychinone) along with 2-6% unchanged synnozides, sennidines, reinantrons and rete.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation. Obstruction, stricture or atony of the intestines, inflammatory diseases of the colon (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis), abdominal pain of unknown cause, appendicitis, dehydration with loss of electrolytes. Do not use in children under 12 years.
Precautions:
Caution use in patients receiving cardiac glycosides, anti-arrhythmic drugs, causing QT prolongation, diuretics, adrenocorticoids or licorice root. The preparation should not be used by patients suffering from stool encirclement, undiagnosed, acute or persistent gastrointestinal complaints, such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, which may be a sign of a potential or existing intestinal obstruction. Long-term laxatives should be avoided. Exercise caution when used for more than 1-2 weeks. Use for more than a short period of treatment (over 7 days) may lead to addiction with the need to increase the dose of the drug, colony atony with functional impairment and the increase of constipation. The preparation should only be used if the therapeutic effect can not be achieved by changing the diet or using diets with a mild laxative effect.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Use during pregnancy and breast-feeding is not recommended.
Side effects:
Very rarely may be: pruritus, urticaria, local or generalized rash, cramping abdominal pain, watery stool, especially in patients with hyperactive intestinal syndrome. These symptoms are often the result of a drug overdose and the dose should be reduced in this case. Long-term use / addiction can lead to disturbances in water and electrolyte management. In particular, diarrhea may lead to loss of potassium, which may result in cardiac arrhythmias and muscle weakness, in particular if the patient simultaneously uses cardiac glycosides, diuretics, adrenocorticoids or licorice root. Too long use of the preparation may cause reversible pigmentation changes in the mucous membrane of the large intestine (Pseudomelanosis coli), proteinuria and hematuria may also occur.
Dosage:
Orally. 1 sachet pour 3/4 cup boiling water, infuse covered for about 10 minutes. Drink 3/4 cup warm warm in the evening before bedtime. The maximum daily dose of glycosides is 30 mg, which corresponds to one sachet of the preparation. Laxative action occurs 8-12 hours after taking the drug.
