indications:
Treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia in order to reduce the volume of the enlarged prostate, improve urine flow and alleviate the symptoms accompanying the disease, and to reduce the risk of acute urinary retention and the need for surgical treatment such as transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) and prostatectomy.
Type II testosterone 5-α-reductase inhibitor. Inhibition of 5-α-reductase activity stops the conversion of testosterone to a hormone with a stronger androgenic effect - dihydrotestosterone, which stimulates the growth of the prostate gland. Finasteride does not show affinity for androgen receptors. The oral bioavailability of finasteride is approximately 80% (food does not affect bioavailability). The drug reaches Cmax within 2 h. Approximately 93% bound to plasma proteins. It is metabolized in the liver. T0,5 is on average 6 hours, in men> 70 years extends to 8 hours. The drug is excreted in urine and faeces.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to finasteride or other components of the preparation. Do not use in women and children.
Precautions:
Patients with a high volume of residual urine and / or significantly reduced urinary outflow should be carefully monitored for obstructive uropathy. There are no data on the use of finasteride in patients with hepatic impairment. Due to the lactose content, the preparation should not be used in patients with galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or malabsorption of glucose-galactose.
Pregnancy and lactation:
The preparation is contraindicated in pregnant women and women who could potentially become pregnant. Finasteride administered to pregnant women could cause disturbances in the development of the external genital organs of male fetuses. Pregnant women and women of childbearing age should not touch broken or broken tablets due to the possibility of percutaneous absorption of the drug and the associated risk to the male fetus. If the partner of a patient treated with finasteride is or may be pregnant, avoid exposure to semen (eg by using a condom) or stop using finasteride.
Side effects:
Common: weakness of libido, impotence. Uncommon: ejaculation disorders, breast enlargement, breast pain, rash. In addition, you may experience: hypersensitivity reactions (pruritus, urticaria, swelling of the lips and face) and testicular pain.
