Local treatment of mild infections of the mouth and throat (pharyngitis, laryngitis, initial period of palatine tonsillitis).
Composition:
1 apple, cherry or lemon flavored tablet contains 1.2 mg of cetylpyridinium chloride.
Action:
The preparation works locally disinfecting. Cetylpyridinium chloride is a disinfectant of the group of quaternary ammonium compounds. Works as a cationic detergent. Quaternary ammonium compounds bind to the surface of the bacterial cell, diffuse through it and bind to the cytoplasmic membrane, thereby increasing the permeability of the cytoplasmic membrane for low molecular weight substances, primarily for potassium ions. Next, the quaternary ammonium compounds penetrate into the cell and interfere with the cell's function, which leads to its death. In this way, cetylpyridinium chloride has a bactericidal effect on Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria as well as on some lipophilic viruses and fungi. Due to its good solubility, cetylpyridinium chloride also penetrates well into the folds and depressions of the mucous membranes, where it inhibits microbial growth and destroys them. Quaternary ammonium compounds are poorly absorbed - only in 10-20%, and unabsorbed parts are excreted unchanged with faeces.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Precautions:
Do not use the drug in the case of wounds and erosions in the mouth (the drug slows down the healing process of wounds). Do not use this medicine in children under 4 years. Exercise caution in severe infections with high fever, headaches and vomiting, if the symptoms worsen or do not subside after 3 days. The tablet contains about 1 g of maltitol, which should be taken into account in patients with diabetes. In addition, the pellets contain mannitol, which together with maltitol can cause diarrhea and glycerol, which can cause headaches and gastrointestinal disorders.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Caution should be exercised during pregnancy and during breastfeeding (no clinical trials).
Side effects:
Rarely: gastrointestinal disorders, i.e. nausea, diarrhea. Very rare: hypersensitivity reactions, i.e. irritation, rash.
Dosage:
Orally. Adults and children> 12 years: 1 lozenge suck every 2-3 h. The recommended daily dose is 8 pellets. Children> 4 years: 1 lozenge suck every 3-4 h. The recommended dose is for children aged 4-10: up to 4 lozenges a day; 10-12 years: up to 6 lozenges a day. Do not use the tablets immediately before or during eating.
