Iron deficiency states associated with blood loss (after injuries, chronic bleeding, surgery, dialysis, in women with heavy menstrual bleeding). The states of increased body requirements for iron (children in the period of intensive growth, pregnancy and breastfeeding). Conditions associated with malabsorption (gastric resection, malabsorption syndrome, persistent diarrhea) or with a diet containing insufficient iron.
Composition:
1 tabl powl. contains 200 mg of iron (II) gluconate, equivalent to 23.2 mg of Fe (II). The tablets contain red Allura AC, lake (E 129).
Action:
Iron is a component of oxygen-carrying and consuming proteins as well as many energy-transferring enzymes. Its deficiency can seriously disturb metabolism. About 70% of the iron present in the body is found in hemoglobin, 25% in ferritin and hemosiderin, 4% in myoglobin, 0.5% in heme enzymes and 0.1% in transferrin. The absorption of iron occurs mainly in the duodenum and upper jejunum using an active enzymatic mechanism. Absorbed iron ions are bound in the blood by the protein transferrin and transferred mainly to the bone marrow, where they are used for the synthesis of hemoglobin. Under physiological conditions from the total amount of about 3.5 g of iron per day, 0.5-2 mg is excreted with exfoliating skin cells, intestinal mucosa, fragments of nails and hair. The loss of iron in women during normal menstruation is 12-30 mg. Iron penetrates the placenta barrier and into breast milk; it is a process necessary for the proper development of the fetus and breastfed child.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients. Diseases of the blood: hemosiderosis, hemochromatosis (cirrhosis characterized by increased absorption and excessive deposition of iron in internal organs in the form of hemosiderin), hemolytic anemia and aplastic anemia. Multiple blood transfusions. Parenteral administration of iron preparations. Percutaneous skin porphyria. Disorders of absorption from the gastrointestinal tract. Proliferative diseases. Cirrhosis.
Precautions:
Do not exceed the recommended doses, especially in children. Before starting treatment, other causes of blood disorder should be ruled out than iron deficiency. Precautions should be taken if you coexist: hepatitis or liver problems; kidney disease; inflammatory bowel conditions; active gastric ulcer and / or duodenal ulcer. Caution should be maintained in elderly patients due to the increased risk of side effects. The product contains azo dye - Allura AC red, a lacquer that can cause allergic reactions.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Prophylactic use of iron in the second and third trimester of pregnancy and during lactation is desirable, but requires blood counts to establish the correct dose of the drug. Excessive iron can be harmful to the fetus or breast-fed baby. The recommended daily iron intake for pregnant and lactating women is 26 mg.
Side effects:
The following may occur: diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, heartburn - in such cases a dose reduction is recommended. In addition, hypersensitivity reactions may occur.
Dosage:
Orally.Healing. Adults: usually 2 tabl. 3 times a day, in significant shortages - 2 tables. 4 times a day. Children over 3 years: 4-6 mg iron / kg / day in divided doses.preventively. Adults: approx. 60 mg of iron (3 tablets) daily in divided doses. Children: 2 mg iron / kg / day in divided doses. Obtaining a full therapeutic effect requires regular and long-term use. The tablets should be taken during or after a meal.
